New ART & A Cry for TV Help!!

The BAT is once again trying to make the move to a large flat screen TV. We tried to do this 3 years ago and never made it happen. Typical for me and my wife. Just like we are still driving around with one of our cars being a 15 year old Acura Integra with green mold all over the body. We even know the car we want to get to replace it and have the funds....we just cant find the time to go test drive and than make the deal. *sigh*

Ok anyway back to TV's. I need some TV advice. 3 years ago WallyBR, a fellow clan mate, hooked me up with a bunch of info and direction. Thanks again Wally, much appreciated. However, 3 years in TV tech development is like 3 decades.  Needless to say a lot has changed.  We want to get something in the 50-60" size. And a price range of $1000-$2000. Im up to speed on the  LCD, LED & Plasma differences. But both offer plus and minuses. We have a large bay like window directly opposite where the TV will  be so glare and reflection are a big concern. Currently I have a non-HDMI stereo receiver that all my components, including the Xbox feed through. But I assume Im going to want to switch to a HDMI home theater sound system correct?  I have also read that the best technology right now is the 3D sets in either Plasma or LCD due to the improved processing power of the 3D sets and are worth it regardless of if you ever intend to view 3D content.

So, what are peoples recommendations? What do you each have and why? I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions the 2o2p community might have. It will be greatly appreciated. :-D

I have been busy art wise working on my Z-Girl comic and web site. 2011 is going to be a big year for Z. We have been accepted to exhibit in the small press area of SDCC in July and want to have issue #1 out in time for that show. Then we are doing an even bigger presentation in Oct at NYCC and want to have issue #2 out in time for that show. So I haven't had much time to finish up the Nobel piece yet. Butt here is a shot of the flat colors I put down the other day. Ill move to shading and finishes soon i hope. Also posting up a quick sketch i did of my 6 year old son as a sniping Spartan. He and I have been playing a lot of Halo lately and he has become quite good for his age. Needless to say Im a very proud Halo Dad. Lastly a new sketch for a Pin up or cover Im planning for Z-Girl. I call it "Charging into darkness" Its a new thing i have gotten into, giving titles or names to my pieces. Dont ask me why, its pretty stupid,  its just something I started doing.

Peace.

There shouldn't be too much worries about LED tv technology, LED just means the light source (either backlit or edge lit). Those tvs are still LCDs.

I purchased a 40" Samsung LED tv in August. It is the sexiest thing I've seen. Love it.

The special gist embraced by designers for Australian sheepskin boots makes these shoes really universal. Till now, hundreds of editions have been released and almost each collection aroused a smashing impact. In order to add some spice to your daily appearance and keep your look always in fashion, these shoes are exactly wonderful choices. All of them show unadorned and smooth sheepskin or wool knitting looks, through which a classy & delicate taste is really detected. Without anything glaring, these simple styles become rather chic and versatile. They go well with whatever kind of clothing, bag and other small decoration. You will never overdo elegance, yet impress the crowd with a moderately gorgeous and fashionable appearance. This will strengthen your confidence undoubtedly! http://uggsonclearanceoutlet.com http://authenticuggbootsclearance.com http://uggsonsaleforkids.com http://uggbootssaleclearance.com

For the TV, I learned my lesson a few months ago, go get a roll of Titanium window film and tint that window. we haven't had a single issue with glare since we tinted our skylights. from the inside, after a few days, you won't see a difference, but it grays the light just enough to eliminate the glare.

LED TV's are the new hottness but my concern with them are they're so new they're not proven. But if you're the type that replaces your TV every 2-3 years it probably doesn't matter. So you should look for LED. Next you'll want to get a fast refresh rate. You'll be wanting 240hz refresh rate if you're wanting the latest and greatest. Some may even be up to 480hz now too. But at some point the refresh rate is faster than your eye can utilize so there's a ceiling here in this spec, i'm just not sure where what that is for the human eye. Of course contrast ratio is also important. YOu want to know what the native refresh rate is if you can find that spec. Most TV specs have moved to 'dynamic' contrast ratios which are enormous numbers but they're also fuzzy math. If you can find the true native contrast ratio, that's what you want. Either way though, the bigger the number the more black the blacks will look. I'm not sure how much processing power your TV has is really all that relevant if all you're doing is watching video. Maybe it matters for 3D because it has to process 2x 1080p but for non 3D i don't think it matters. If you're not running HDMI, doing that upgrade is going to give you the best quality upgrade. I'd recommend an Onkyo receiver, a 606 or 707. Not sure what model number they're up to now but you can get a decent one for around 400 bucks. HDMI has also changed. 1.3a used to be the standard but now there's HDMI 1.4 which adds support for theater resolution HD video, Ethernet networking between HDMI devices and stereoscopic 3D. I"m not sure if 1.4 devices are more expensive than 1.3a but my guess is that they probably are. But if you're going to get a new TV and a new Receiver, you might want to consider HDMI 1.4 compatible devices.

Thanks Caesar!! Once i get them colored up let me know if you want a print. :-) Thanks Automan, tinting the window is something we didn't even think about, Great idea!!!! Thanks TANK. Yeah I didn't want to spend the extra cash now on a new sound system, but it looks like moving to an HDMI receiver is going to be key to actually experiencing the benefit of making the move to a better TV. :-) Great input dude much appreciated.
