I Knew Better but I Just Couldn’t Help it…

I have been telling myself that if I ever bought Oblivion I would become addicted to it. That this game would be the one that not only got me back into RPG’s but would suck many hours out of my life and cause my girl to want to kill me.

Well, I was mostly right.

Wednesday, I finally received my 7900gt OC graphics card from my eVGA Step Up. Once installed, I wanted to pick up a new game that would really push this graphics card so I could see what it could really do. I had about $40 USD in gift cards for Best Buy so I dragged my sick, weary body out of the house to go grab a new game. With my girl in tow, I high-tailed it over to the computer games section of the store and began going through the isles looking at everything that was available. I finally settled on either Battlefield 2 or Oblivion. I called my girl over and asked her which she thought I should pick up. Well she gave me this horrid look and said she didn’t care nor did she approve of me spending another $50 on a game. I reminded her that I had gift cards and I would only be spending $10 out of pocket, once she heard that she quickly changed her tune. “Hand them over”, she said and began to inspect both boxes. Being an ex-EQ freak she didn’t want me to pick up Oblivion for fear that I would become what she once was but she had no interest in BF2 as she doesn’t like military shooters either. I quickly pointed out that Oblivion was not an MMORPG and that I wouldn’t be spending a ton of time online with a bunch of other people to go along with my normal Halo 2 and CounterStrike: Source addictions. She then got excited as she liked the way Oblivion looked on the box. So she decided that Oblivion is the one she wanted me to get so she could play it as well. So I went home and installed it and away we went.

Big Mistake!

Once I decided to play there was no turning back. It sucked me in from the first time I stepped out of the sewers. I must’ve played for several hours that first time without realizing it. Needless to say, she wasn’t all to thrilled, at least until she played it. The next day when she got home from work she probably killed a good 5 hours without even a thought as to how much she didn’t like me spending so much time on it the night before.

We were both hooked!

So this weekend I didn’t join my Halo 2 brothers/sisters online nor did the 2o2p CS server see my shadow. I was stuck in Cyrodiil with little regard for my illness, medication, thirst or hunger. And when I wasn’t running around the stunning countryside, my girl was meandering through the beautiful landscapes that came to be our new infatuation.

Although I don’t believe this game can completely cure my previous addictions to my favorite FPSs, it will definitely take time away from the normal frag fests that my weekends (and some weeknights) have become over the past year.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the name of my pleasure/pain and I love every minute of it!!!

You need to watch your missus if you are to quench your Oblivion addiction. My wife has clocked up over 130 hours playing the thing which is eating into my playing time. Im only about 15 hours in. Good luck with the excuses youll have to make to keep her away from the pc.

Crackheads! All of you. Oblivian may be the reason I break down and buy a 360. Problem is its for my wife, and Ill never get to use it. Shes a huge RPG nut and been reading about Oblivian in my OXM magazine. Dammit, now I gotta buy two 360s. Well, on the brighter side, at least you have Oblivian now to keep your girl company while you frag with us.
