Continuing my medical saga

Well, here I go again. Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but it's the only one I have!

As I reported over a year ago (March of 2009), my thyroid cancer continues to do its thing. I blogged about it back then and said that I would be monitoring it and then in August informed y'all about the inability to find it well enough to take out. Well here we are in July over a year later and still no resolution. An indicator of thyroid cancer is a blood test for thyroglobulin. With the thyroid removed, it should be down around zero. The lowest I have gotten it in over 15 years is around 15. The last test I had showed it at 314, not good.

Neither CT scans nor MRI's have found it for removal. Last week I had a bone scan done to see if it has metastisized to the bone but with no definitive answers. I am currently glowing with radioactive Iodine in preparation for another full body scan on Friday (like the test that found the two sites in my chest last year). All of these tests are being done at the University of Chicago instead of my local hospital since my endrocrinoligist is there. In the past having him recommend procedures out here has worked fine, but not in the last year.

It has taken a lot of my time in that it is a 1-2 hour drive to the UofC plus wait time and ride back home. Last week was only one day, but this week I had to go down on Monday and Tuesday for blood tests and a shot to stimulate the thyroid cells. Today I had to go down for the radioactive iodine and on Friday is the scan itself.

But as I have stated before, I'm really not complaining when others have to go through so much more. So give a hug to one you care about and be glad for any moments of peace and happiness.

I don't know what to say. Keep fighting and I'll be thinking about you, Doorgunner. I hope they find it and you get some good news.

Glowing with radioactive iodine MUST have it's benefits. You don't ahve to use a night light to get to the bathroom, for one. I tease, cause I care so much. Hang in there Doorgunner! We are all rooting for you!
