That's East Texas For You

Ready for some more East Texas flavor? Too bad, here it is.

No one ever goes to East Texas on purpose. Because of that fact we can get away with things that would get other people sued. Like using a famous Nintendo character to advertise your plumbing business.

Try that in New York and you'll get served pretty quick I would think.

I ran across this gem in a local paint store-

It's hard to tell in the photo, but this is some kind of NASCAR shrine. I don't know what driver he is worshiping here. I don't follow NASCAR.

In most communities if you have something to sell you put an ad in the paper or if you are in a large market you can try Craig's List. Plus there is always eBay.  Well, that doesn't work out here apparently so East Texans resort to other means for advertising their junk -

People often spend a lot of time and money in making their homes and lawns beautiful. They want their homes to reflect something about themselves.  I don't know what this guy is trying to reflect, unless he is advertising the size of his package to the neighbors-

The reading abilities of some (most?) East Texans can be spotty at best so when advertising your business, make sure you use images that convey the nature of your establishment -

That's classy. It's silver and everything!

I ran across this in a truck stop -

I bet I know what the truckers are rubbing up there in their cab. Yeah, that's pretty nasty.  Goes right along with this that I mentioned in an earlier blog -

You wanna sell in East Texas? Then it better have beer as an ingredient or have a curse word in the name.

This display was in the very same truck stop-

Yes, you are seeing that right. They have the Shrek coloring books and toys right there with the condoms.  I guess they were out of balloons.

Lastly, I found this in a Dallas area fast food restaurant -

That is Van Gogh's "Starry Night" hanging above the toilet.  Sure, it's not the original "Starry Night" and the restaurant is a Boston Market, a bit more upscale than say Dairy Queen, but come on. All the art work in the bathroom was Van Gogh. At least they were consistent.

Looks like a shrine to Jimmy and Jeff.
