Cub Scouts sinking

I had a Cub Scouts rally about 2 weeks ago and managed to recruit some new kids to our local Pack. But the same thing happened then what happens every year.Once you say we need adult volunteers to be Den Leaders, every one loses interest or comes up a reason that needs to shared with me why they can't do it.It never fails, I even held a Parent Orientation night which usually results in netting a few volunteers for us.But I know damn good and well I seriously tanked at it this year.

I've never done a Parent Orientation before I decided to follow the Cub Scout motto "Do Your Best".I had planned on the event to last for about 30 minutes but I had to deal with some issues from last year, that I think hurt the pack also.We had a volunteer last year come up and said that they would be interested in becoming the Cubmaster since our current one at that time decided she was going to the Boy Scouts to be the new Scoutmaster for our local patrol.

I was against this person then and that would be about the time I hurt my back and decided I was no use to the Cub Scouts in my current pain pill induced condition. So I resigned as the Committee Chair position and told them to go on without me.Being the Committee Chair was fun while I did it, I mean I practically ran the organization in my area.Didn't get paid for it as I was a volunteer myself but it was fun.All I really did was say yes or no to who could become a Den Leader and signed a whole lot of paper work to keep things going.

Well after the recruiting rally, I decided to get in contact with our old Cubmaster and find out who our new Cubmaster is after I had left. She told that the same person I was against applied for the position again after I had left and was accepted by the left over council members. But that all changed in somewhere down the road, apparently this person punched their kid at a Scout camping event and several other packs witnessed this. This got around to the Scout Executive and said theres no way that that person could be a leader in the Cub Scouts.

Well at last nights Parent Orientation this sorry ass individual showed up right before the scheduled time and tried to convince that they didn't know what had happen and never touched their child.(fyi theres a reason I'm using their name and trying to very vague about who this person is, partly because I don't like this person at all!!!!!!)

I then told this person that I would conduct a investigation about the matter and get the whole story and make up my mind about it then. The investigation lasted about 10 minutes and I decided to avoid a big scene to have this person leave the meeting.I didn't want the parents that were showing up to see this and be ran off by this person.

But back to the what I was originally talking about, once you mention that you need adult volunteers every one clams up and looks for the nearest exit.I managed to convince the parents that arrived to the meeting to at least think it over and we will hold this meeting once again the following Monday after Labor Day.

My prediction for this is that no one will even bother to sign up to be an adult volunteer, if this happens then I have no choice but to call our local council executive and tell them that the pack folded do to no adult leadership.

gop out..............................

Yep, it's easy to drop your kids off to be babysat but a lot tougher if you have to be involved in their life.

My lady put her rapscallion heathens into Cub Scouts this year and volunteered to be a den mother. She said they've been having problems getting volunteers as well. I told her if she can identify some attractive, sexually adventurous and discrete den mothers, perhaps I'll volunteer. She hissed at me.
