..and my will is weak.

I'll see the rest of you Sith online in a few hours.

And I was really trying to cut back on my video-game-spending too. Mother fucker.

MMO's are basically the way to cut back on your gaming-spending. You buy the key and you download the client (usually cheaper than buying a boxed copy) and take out the longest running sub on it. The longer running the sub is, the fewer hours you need weekly to get your money's worth. Play the MMO for six months for 2/3 hours a day and you'll have gotten more out of it than what you paid for. The only question is whether or not you like the MMO enough to do that, but essentially, playing a closed-system MMO is considerably cheaper than console-gaming.

I solo'ed for a few hours last night and so far I love it. Fortunately for the money situation there's nothing big on the radar for several months, at least until GTA5, so I don't mind spending $15 per month. And if the last couple years of MMO history is any indication it won't be long before it goes F2P!

If only F2P was deemed as an illegal marketing practise. Yes, you can play for free but you'll never get anywhere unless you pay. -> Items, potions, armors and weapons that are awesome, but only work for a max of four days... then you have to buy new. -> Premium areas with better drops the F2P-peeps can't access. -> Costumer support within 12 hours for premium members. -> Special items that open special rooms/chests/whatever with awesome gear... if you buy them first. -> Grouping with Premium members? Buy a premium sub! F2P isn't free at all and can end up costing you much more than a closed-system MMO.

Though it was meant more as a joke about the state of the MMO in general, I'm conflicted on the idea. It's great for casual gamers, but it also severely handicaps gamers who don't have extra pocket cash to spend. I played APB for a VERY short time. Their initial pricing model was great - buy a package of in-game hours, or $10 a month for unlimited access. When they switched to F2P though, I was constantly getting email spam to buy the newest greatest weapon at a discount. APB is a PVP-heavy game and it was clear right off the bat who was paying the money for the better weapons, and who was playing for free. Personally I don't mind spending $15 a month for a game I enjoy.
