What are you reading right now??

In V2, this was one of my favorite threads to lurk. I am reading two books right now, and almost done with them, so looking to see what others are reading and recommend.

"It's So Easy (and Other Lies)" by Duff McKagan - Duff was the original bassist for Guns N Roses, and was with the band from their inception through the Use Your Illusion era (basically when GNR was the biggest band in the world). His autobiography focuses especially on his alcoholism and drug use and an inside look at GNR through their tours and downfall. Although nobody denies that Axl Rose is a piece of shit, Duff is actually very fair about not using him as a scapegoat for the band's decline.

"It" by Stephen King - I've watched the old 1990 miniseries numerous times so I figured I'd finally check out the book. I'm about 100 pages from the end and although Stephen King is overtly descriptive, I'm loving it.

Currently on a R.A. Salvatore kick.  Just finished the "Cleric Quintet" series (all 5 novels in 1 hardcover), and fixing to get back to the Drizzit series where I left off a little while ago.

Also had a chance to meet B.S. Levy at the Pacific Northwest Historics (vintage car races).  BSed with him for half hour or more, and picked up all of his offerings while I was there.  I've been meaning to buy them anyways, and this actually allowed me to put the $$$ straight to his pocket.  He ended up autographing all of them and even kicked me some swag.  smiley  The fact that one of the books was essentially free (he had discounted rates for multiple purchases) was an added bonus.  If you are interested in vintage cars, I highly recommend "The Last Open Road", the first book in the series.  I bummed this book from the old man several years ago and got lost in another time.  Warning, it is fiction...and it is contagious.  wink

I started the Dune series for the first time...it was one of those that I have been meaning to get to and never did.  Waiting for Patrick Rothfuss' third his Kvothe saga.  I need some recommendations actually.  Anyone have anything amazing that they are reading right now?  All genres are acceptable and I love everything from Sci-Fi to Non-Fiction.  None of those Mass Effect/Star Wars/Fantasy books written at a 7th grade level...something intricate and challenging would be awesome!

I've got 3 series going right now for some strange reason.  I've read two of them before but its been awhile and they were good reads.

The Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton, Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind and started Lord of the Isles by David Drake which seems like it's going to be a very good and intricate series.

Finished Robin Cook - Harmful Intenet.  I had read this book when I was 17 (I'm now 41) and I was forced to lay on a couch for a couple of weeks after surgery on my foot.  I actually read a few Robin Cook books and listened to Ozzy's new guitar player Zakk Wylde on No Rest for the Wicked over and over.....it's sadly one of my fondest memories - it was just a great time lol  Anywho....reading this book again has ruined it for me.  17 year old me loved it.....41 year old me finds the book fairly terrible :( oh well.   No Rest for the Wicked is still great :D

In my quest to read other popular books that I haven't read I am currently reading Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.  I've never seen the movie (I don't really watch many movies) so it's all good to me :)  I'm enjoying it quite a bit more than the Robin Cook book I just finished.

World War Z was a great book. I'd also recommend checking out the Zombie Survival Guide, also by Max Brooks. It's a quick read, and the kind of book you can leave on the toilet and read for a few minutes a day.

Just finished American Sniper by Chris Kyle. He was a seal sniper with more confirmed kills than anyone else in history. Easy read, interesting book.

Just started (and this will take me awhile - these are some fat books) Brandon Sanderson "The Mistborn Trilogy".  I love the way this book is going so far.  Really freak'n good.

As far as sci-fi goes, this guy is pretty good. The book is Glasshouse by Charles Stross.

It's an apocolyptic version of the future, much like a steam-punk novel, but isn't really quite in that genre. It is a real reflection on our current society.

Very good.

yes

After I read that one  I sent an e-mail to Charles Stross telling him I really liked his writing. Surprisingly he wrote back. Almost anything he does is cool.

Also - he's got a new one out co-written with Cory Doctorow (from BoingBoing.net) called "Rapture of the Nerds" and they've been doing a tour to support it.

Try "Accelerando" if you can find it.

will do, thanks. am reading The Darkness that Comes Before right now by R. Scott Bakker

He's been likened to a new george martin, but I think he not as dramatic. HIs novel is much easier to follow and has a different voice from martin even though they're both dealing with the same genre.

Just finished Robopocalypse by Daniel Wilson.  Heard they were making a movie about this so decided to check it out.  It's basically The Terminator meats World War Z.  In fact, it pretty much follows World War Z completely.  It's an easy read and a decent book.

That robopocalypse sounds pretty cool, think I may try and see if the library has that.

I am currently reading the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. Very good books. However I am not very patiently waiting for the third installment of the warded man by Peter V Brett due in February.

Just finished A Memory of Light by Brandon Sanderson/Robert Jordan, final book in the Wheel of Time.  Still a little shocked the series is over after 20 years.  Have to do a slower re-read before I decide how I really feel about the book.  FIrst read through felt a bit rushed.  Overall I liked the book, even if there were a few things that felt a little off with Sanderson's writing.  Mat just doesn't feel like the Mat I've known throughout the series.

Reading The Generals by Thomas E. Ricks. Needed to sprinkle in some non-fiction in my reading schedule. It's a good book but long.
