I've been playing the beta on my Xbox One and enjoying it a lot. The Division is a third person cover-based shooter RPG. The RPG aspect is similar to Destiny, but the feel of the shooting is quite different. Somewhat slower and perhaps a bit more tactical due to the emphasis on cover/flanking and the way grenades are handled. Ubisoft has been coy about what will be available for endgame play, but if they do it right and quash a few more bugs, this could be one of the important games of 2016 for me. It releases on March 8 and is also available on PS4 and PC.

I've been playing the beta now for 20 hours and I can say that I have concluded i am canceling my pre-order, I do not like this game.

The world is very sparce with anything to do, which ok maybe that's because of the beta.  But you run around so damn much on foot it's practically a running simulator.  And the city looks the same, high walls of buildings line every street and the ground level is so cluttered with junk.  The junk density needs to be halved and there needs to be more fast travel options.  In the beta you can only fast travel to the first and only 'story' mission.  And if you happen to die during a mission, you can have a long haul to get back to where you were.  The environment needs more cut thru's between buildings so you don't need to run all the way down one street to hop a fence to run all the way back up the next street, it's just kinda stupid.  Like i said, i felt like i played a running simulator for three days.

Besides those things, way too many missions are on the clock.  Needlessly so.  I HATE being put on a clock.  Why when I need to throw two power switches do i need to be on a clock and race across the rooftops, hap hazardly engage in combat which goes against the games design of slower tactical fire fights for the sake of getting to my next waypoint thing.  Another really stupid game design.

Laslty , all the GOOD loot is in the ridiculous Dark Zone.  Lets discuss what this zone is suppose to be, which is you go in, do your missions and choose to work with other people in the zone to achieve these goals.  Then you get your rewards and extract the loot out so i t can be used in your campaign.  If you decide to be a douche and kill someone for their loot, you light up on everyones screen as a public enemy and you get hunted down  yourself.  Then you have to extract your loot to get to keep it, you have to call in a chopper and stay alive and get your loot on that chopper on a clock (again with the clocks).  SO you have to tactically think about who's around, is anyone watching your back an dwhat not.

But here's what Dark Zone actually is.....  people playing the game properly spend their time playing 'properly which is doing the missions, getting loot etc.  Then douchbag parties just run from extraction zone to extraction zone gunning you down and stealing your shit.  Of course they have better shit than you do because all they're doing is stealing everyones shit which slows down your progression in campaign because you can't get good stuff out of this zone reliably.  And if there more than one of douchbag shooting at you, they can use a semifire gun and each shoot you one time alternating wearing you down and they never become a public enemy.  MEanwhile if you engage them you're putting a lot of damage on one guy so YOU are marked as rogue and that'll draw in everyone else who wants to be a douche bag.  This mode looked good on paper unfortuniatly it didn't take into account what kind of douchebags gamers are these days.  And since this is where the good loot is, you're pretty much forced to play this bullshit and this is by far the biggest reason why this game can go fuck itself.  I'm out.

I can sum up my time playing the beta in 3 works, bored, frustrated and victimized. So this isn't something I need to invest any more of my time into.  Best of luck to those who get the production release.

Well Tank, thanks for saving me some time and possibly money. I hate clocks as well. I avoid games that have them like the plague. I didn't pre order this game as they cost a lot more here in Canada now and I want to see how they play for a bit before committing.

Sorry you had such a rotten time with it, Tank! I enjoyed the game environment and atmosphere a lot, and am still looking forward to the release.

How many timed missions did you find? I think I can maybe remember three (two medical and the one you describe). I did find one of the medical ones too much for me, and didn't finish it. But it let's you reset and retry as you like, so I thought that was fair enough.

As far as fast travel, for my tastes, it's a two-edged sword. I like that it saves me time. I hate that it too often wrecks the feel of a large open world. Who cares that the large world is even there, if the path to victory is to teleport between a handful of points? It does need to keep your interest somehow while you are traveling, though. Not sure they will completely accomplish this in the "normal" zone. If they can't, I would not be surprised if additional fast travel options are added.

The dark zone is another story however. I thought the dark zone had a great feeling of tension, precisely due to the other agents, who you know can go rogue and jump you at any time. I was never bored walking around in the dark zone. Seems to me that balancing this type of PvP is extremely challenging, but I thought they did a pretty good job of it overall.

I was mulling over preordering too. Did get a Beta code last week, but was really busy and had no time to play. I have heard mixed reviews so I think I will wait for a bit to see what the final product before committing.

I will be getting this as well. Maybe not launch day but asap. I played the beta and was having a great time. I'm sure it will be way better with everything unlolcked and rolling with a crew as I went solo mostly. If you don't have a Uplay account you might want to sign up as it looks like you can get some items to help you right away.

Ok, the game is out and I see a number of peeps (that passed spell check?) playing the game.  Initial impressions?  I am thinking about getting it but would like some feedback.  Thanks.

I don't have the game, but I have been reading about it and watching streams. The game looks fun to me and I like how you can have actual builds and weapons with different perks. I mean real perks, not the stuff we have in Destiny.

I'm thinking about going for it, but I'd like to see more about what kind of "end game" content Ubisoft has for the game.

Picked the game up yesterday.Ran coop with a 4 man squad last night.Really fun game. Its a looter shooter so you run around and get gear from crates and drops. I would recommend it.

I've played the betas and picked up the game the other day. I'm really enjoying the game but wouldn't mind some company, especially when taking on some of the raids. I'm also not a fan of going into the Dark Zone solo.

Any takers can hit me up on XBL: VoodooHack

As a New Yorker that works in midtown, I can honestly say that they've nailed the look and feel of Manhattan in terms of layout and scale. While I'm sure they scaled down some parts, the major landmarks look convincingly like a 1:1 replica minus the branding of stores names, etc. For example, the exteriors of the main post office and MSG/Penn Station are spot-on! My office BTW is in the Dark Zone, on 41st between Madison and 5th. Can't wait to go there in-game.

I was gong to pass for the first little while on this game as I didn't have the best experience with the open beta. Just happened to be at Best Buy and picked up a PS4 version (no self control laugh) . I am glad I did, really enjoying the missions. the game is well done, Sound and graphocs are awesome, can't wait to see what the next year brings. Also Can't wait to level up and go to the Dark Zone.

I am assuming there is no cross platform play with this game?

My PSN: roknrobn

Now if I can just wrangle time on my PS4 from the kids. angel

I have this game. It's definitely geared towards the multiplayer capability. put it on hard and it becomes rather frustrating solo. cover system can agrovate. not a lot in the exploration dept. but it's fun. and I like how it feels more like a game trying to be a game. rather than a game trying to be a movie. I like the rpg aspect and even with the sometimes annoying cover system the combat is fun.
