Xbox One Headset

Looking at getting a headset for my Xbone. On my PS4 I have the Playstation Gold headset which works fine for me. Been looking around and from what I see, there is no true Surround Sound on the Xbox one headsets, just simulated. Is this correct? I would love to have 100% wireless, but it looks like something like that cost around $230, I'd rather stay closer to the $100 Mark. Was looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Force-Premium-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00D9... The Turtle Beach XO Seven's but wanted to get some feedback from other people.

Love my XO SEVEN.

Mic is very sensitive so keeping it away from the front of your mouth is important.

Mic monitoring is available through the new controllers with the 3.5 mm jack. The settings controls are a bit cumbersome but the results are fine.

The current Microsoft Stereo adapter cancels mic monitoring so don't bother with it, unless you have old controllers. Turtle Beach was selling the XO SEVEN with their own stereo adater with mic monitoring, in the USA.

The ear cans can be hot in hot humid weather.

Battery usage is very low for me. I use 2300 NiMh AA batteries and get many hours of use before recharging.

The TB Stealth 420 offers a 100% wireless experience using only a wireless USB adapter. Just announced, I think.

The TB XO ONE headset is a cheaper on-ear headset with good ratings.

And that's the rub.  If you use the 3.5 mm jack you get mic monitoring but have to adjust volume in game settings.  If you use the old adapter, you can adjust total volume and game/chat volume mix, but lose mic monitoring.  I have gone back to the XO Seven headset and use the old adapter.  Even without monitoring it works well for me.  My voice just sounds a little muted to me, but I don't feel the need to yell.

A bit of a warning on the "newer" headsets.  The TB Stealth 500 headset is advertised as Dolby 7.1 and sounds great but is very fragile.  The underlying "arms" that support the ear cups sliding up and down for fit adjustment are plastic and break very easily.  Once I adjusted the ear cups I literally had to duct tape the arms to keep them from breaking (anymore than they already had).  Ironically the XO Sevens have a similar design but I have had no problems with them.  Maybe the 420's are better designed.  Another, more major issue with the 500 is that the wireless transmitter apparently has issues.  I lost the ability to hear other players in party chat.  They could hear me, but I couldn't hear them.  Could be caused by one of the many XBONE updates that we have been having, but who knows.

Tried the Astro A50's but they are not quite wireless because they use a chat cable with their own adapter.  I was getting crackling and broken chat voices with them so I returned those.  The problems with these expensive wireless headsets are why I went back to the simpler XO Seven.

Thanks. That's what I'm looking for, however I don't see if they are just stereo or surround sound.

Every headset is stereo unless the source has simulated surround sound. That's typically only available from optically connected wireless transceivers like the Stealth 500X.

The XB1 controller currently only outputs stereo.

Picked up the XO Seven Pros. Unboxed them and they seem really nice. Hoping to play some Gears tonight to try them out.

I am now using an Astro A40 headset with mix amp pro for my Xbox One.  The mic doesn't work and so I just use Kinect.

Did play some Gears the other night and kinda disappointed in these compared to my Playstation Gold. They don't seem to have the same punch. Don't know if they are not set up correctly or if it's the game itself. Going to try in Halo to see if it's any different.
