Nyko Intercooler 360

I was having some issues with games locking up during pivotal points, you know, like when you are in the middle of a fire fight in GRAW. Not to mention the noise the 360 made when playing that game, shoot I didn't even need my heat on this winter I just let the 360 run. Any way the summers coming, and that means more heat, and even more intense use of the graphics processor. So I went looking around for some sort of cooling system that didn't require me to modify my 360. I found the Nyko Intercooler 360 it's only $20. According to the web site and several web sites like Team XBOX and IGN it sounded like this would help out a lot.

The Nyko website shows some very good pics of what the device looks like, and how it works. It's supposed to cool the system by 10 degrees which is significant. IGN gave the device an 8.5. So I decided that since I don't want to wait months if my system melts that I'd give it a shot.

For $20 I figured to give it a try. But you'll be hard pressed to find it in your local stores. I went to Best Buy and asked if they carried it, I got the typical confused look from the guy who claimed he "knows" video games, I think his name was Timmy. Timmy said that such a device doesn't exist and that the 360 isn't known to melt down during Marathon games of BF, or GRAW, and that I probably shouldn't fry an egg on my system as that may void the warranty...

So feeling like I just lost several points of IQ and 15 minutes of my life I went and checked out EB games and Gamestop but they said they sell out as soon as they came in. So I found one on Gamestop.com, and several other online vendors. I purchased mine from Gamestop.com

When the unit arrived it was packaged in the typical plastic case, you know, the kind that you need a hacksaw to open it with. So after 15 minuets of fiddling around I got the thing open. It was very light, and consists of three fans. The unit itself attaches to the back of the 360, and has a pass through power connector so you don't need to find another spot in your already over crowded power strip.

It was a breeze to install, and powers on and off with your 360. Not only that but you can turn the fan system off via a switch on the back. It is very quiet, but then again I sit 12 feet away from my 360, and have my surround sound turned up.
Typically after 5 hours of Oblivion my 360 usually starts to sound like it's about to take off and you could probably cook an egg on it. But since adding the Intercooler I've noticed increase performance and less noise, and I can touch my 360 without getting 3rd degree burns. It's in the back of the system and you don't need to stand the system up to use it, which is a bonus. So go check it out, I think it's well worth the $20 plus shipping and handling.
