New Releases: Week of June 26, 2016

Lots of different games are out this week to close out the month of June.  They’re kind of all over the place but I suspect Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens will be the hit of the summer.  Hopefully for parents it will keep the kids occupied and quiet for summer vacation!  Also are 2old2players up on the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures franchise? I need an expert that can take a stab at explaining the short version of the backstory since looking at the wiki made my brain hurt.

7 Days to Die

Release Date: June 28th, 2016

Platforms: PS4, XBone

This open world “survival horde crafting game” has been in PC early access since December 2013. Its finally making its way to consoles with Telltale as the publisher. I guess they are really trying to ride the zombie train on the popularity of their Walking Dead games.  Not sure why the trailer makes it look like it's live action video because the screenshots of game play clearly show that it's not.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure:  Eyes of Heaven

Release Date: June 28th, 2016

Platforms: PS4

Oh man-ga with this one!  Has anyone read these comics or played the previous game and can clue me in on what the heck is going on here?  Like is Robert E.O. Speedwagon’s special ability fighting feelings?  Or does Dio shoot rainbows in the dark?!

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Release Date: June 28th, 2016

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBone, XBox360, PS3, PSVita, WiiU, 3DS

It's a trap! The latest Star Wars movie gets the Lego treatment. Two of the biggest franchises in history come together this week and are out for all the platforms! Not only does this one promise to have all the humor of lego games but it's also supposed to provide some backstory to the years missing between the movies.  And the voice actor for Admiral Ackbar is listed in the credits so I’m standing by my original statement!

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness

Release Date: June 28th, 2016

Platforms: PS4

My husband vowed never to play another Star Ocean game after one of them was the last game to be played in not one but TWO PS3s that died horrible deaths (Sony at least sent us back the disc both times). Seven years since the last JRPG title in the franchise, I’m still wary of letting this one anywhere near the PS4. The graphics look pretty sweet though so worth checking out if you are a fan of the franchise!

The Technomancer

Release Date: June 28th, 2016

Platforms: PC, PS4, XBone

This SciFi RPG is set on Mars and has a lot in common with developer Spiders’ other game Mars: War Logs. Looks like it's got a good story and you can influence a lot of your character’s backstory and abilities.

Zero Time Dilemma

Release Date: June 28th, 2016

Platforms: PSVita, 3DS, PC

I was intrigued by the descriptions of this one since I love adventure games.  Watching the trailer though looks like it might lean a little too close to the Saw movies for my tastes.

Inside

Release Date: June 29th, 2016

Platforms: PC, XBone

This is a new puzzle platformer from the creators of Limbo.  You play as a young boy in an eerie drab landscape looking for ways to stop mind control experiments. From the trailer I’m kind of expecting a nod to the 1984 Apple ad and at some point a blonde lady will show up and throw a hammer...

BoxBoxBoy!

Release Date: June 30th, 2016

Platforms: 3DS

Reading up on this one all I could think of Simpson’s Road Rage and another exciting field trip to the box factory! “Yeah boxes!” I’m pretty sure this is as exciting as a trip to a box factory.  But that’s the pessimist in me since the first game was popular enough that this a sequel!
