New Releases: Week of May 22nd, 2016

This weekend is a long weekend for us Canadians. It is officially known as Victoria Day, however the weekend is dubbed May Long, May 2-4 or the official start of summer camping season! I can't speak for the rest of Canada but over here in Alberta one should NEVER go camping on May long. First off, the campgrounds seem to be overrun by idiots more so than any other weekend of the year and the weather is always just pure crap. It usually snows for one if not all the days nearer to the Rockies and is just wet and miserable everywhere else. This weekend is no exception as it is pouring outside...scratch that...I see flakes. I feel for those out camping but I am totally ok with mother nature dumping on us right now. Besides the fact the entire province could use the moisture, I'm inside where it is warm and dry and I have games and chores (ugh) and games to help pass the time.

Let's see what this upcoming week has in store for us.

Overwatch
Release Date:
May 24th, 2016
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Overwatch is Blizzards foray into the crowded multiplayer online shooter arena. From everything I have heard and seen about this game it looks fun as hell and you know if Blizzard is behind it this game will be polished. Will it be able to pull gamers away from COD, Halo, CounterStrike, etc? I don't know. Multiplayer only games have been pretty hit and miss lately and they are definitely not my cup of tea but I know a lot of people that are watching this one to see how it does before possibly jumping into the fray.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:Mutants in Manhattan
Release Date: May 24th, 2016
Platforms: PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

When I first heard about this game I automatically thought "crappy movie tie in". However, after looking into it I can say TMNT:MiM has more to do with the Saturday Morning Cartoon I loved as a kid and the comics than it does with the recent Michael Bay movies. Then I found that Mutants in Manhattan is a 4 person co-op game like the old Arcade game and I got super excited. Sadly it is only online co-op but the play style is happily not side scroller and has more in common with Diablo III. I couldn't find out if it is at least 2-person couch co-op but here's joping. Man I wish we could still rent games up here. TMNT:MiM would be a perfect weekend rental.

Total War: Warhammer

The Total War Franchise has been pretty much everywhere but stuck in medieval times. That's about to change as Total War goes into the realm of fantasy with orcs and dragons and magic - oh my! No longer confined to historically accurate tools you can wield not only magic but you are in command of all manner of mythical beasts. If you have been missing a good fantasy RTS since Warcraft III then you may want to check Total War: Warhammer out
