New Releases: Week of May 9, 2016

Doom is upon us! After years of screenshots, peeks, teasers, and hopelessly distant release dates it's finally almost here and I can almost taste the UAC goodness. Yummy. If you're not a fan of id's mega-awesome shooter from hell, then there's some other shit coming out this week that will fill your soul with bunnies and cherubs, or not. Whatever, DOOM FTW!!!

Stellaris

Release Date: May 9

Platform: PC

Although Stellaris is set in space, it is definitely not Doom. This PC only stretegy game from Paradox Interactive chronicles Earth's first intergalactic encounter with alien races.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth

Release Date: May 10

Platforms: PS4, XB1

This is DLC for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Although there are apparently demons involved, it should not be confused with Doom, which is FPS: this is top-down with a baby protagonist. The babies in Doom will kill you. Some sources indicate both Sony and MS consoles will receive this one on Tuesday, but others claim the PS4 only. What does it mean?

The Magic Circle: Gold Edition

Release Date: May 10

Platform: PS4

Okay, this one is partially set in space, but it's not Doom. Not every space game is Doom: I can't emphasize that enough. The Magic Circle: Gold Edition gives the player quite a bit of creative input and feature the voice talent of James Urbaniak (The Venture Bros.). I'd like to play this, after I finish Doom, but I don't have a PS4. Suck it, Sony.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Release Date: May 10

Platform: PS4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsXHjqr2fBg

If Doom wasn't coming out this week, and I had a PS4 (suck it, Sony) I would be picking up Uncharted 4: A Thief's End on Tuesday and playing the ever-loving shit out of it until it was time to go to work on Wednesday morning. Naughty Dog knows how to make a great game, and if the little bit that ChunkySoup (whose beverage was confiscated by Sony) and I saw at E3 is as good as the rest of the game, then this fourth installment is going to be epic. Hard choice for those of you who own both sysyems.

Doom

Release Date: May 13

Platforms: XB1, PS4, PC

Here's a question for all you old-school gamers out there. What game is set on Mars, pits the player against UAC tech-stealing minions from hell, and puts a BFG in the player's hands? Oh man, it's Doom  and it hits both current gen consoles and PCs this Friday. So, spend the weekend with that doomed space marine we've been waiting for since QuakeCon 2014, and get your multiplayer fragfest on. I'm so stoked!
