New Releases: Week of November 9, 2015

 

Clear your schedule folks; it’s about to get real! This week’s new releases features a journey through the wasteland in the next installment of one of the most revered titles in gaming, the return of the baddest female adventurer this side of the Yamatai, a rhythm game for all you Vita fans and the third and final installment in the Starcraft II Trilogy. Grab your Pip-boy and power armor, it’s time to leave the vault!   


Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival

Spun off of the Animal Crossing series, AC: Amiibo Festival is a virtual board game that features four playable Animal Crossing characters: Mable, Tom Nook, Isabelle and K.K. and supports the Amiibo cards released with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. AC: Amiibo Festival requires Amiibo figures to place characters in the game and includes eight different Amiibo figures, each with their own personal characteristics, in this newest release. Amiibo fans shouldn’t fret as Nintendo has “gone all in on Amiibo integration.” 

Fallout 4

Set 200 years after nuclear war in post-apocalyptic Boston, players emerge from the vault and can wander the wasteland acquiring valuable experience as they see fit: completing quests, customizing weapons and utilizing Fallout 4’s new feature-the ability to build or tear down settlements! Of course several Fallout staples return of so you won’t be without your Pip-boy, V.A.T.S., your new updated T-60 power armor (which can be customized too!) or Dogmeat. The winner of “best of Show” at E3 this game promises to be a true gem and may ultimately warrant GoTY consideration. If you’re a Fallout fan, get ready to spend many hours wandering in the wasteland.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

The long awaited sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider takes place a full year after Lara’s supernatural experience on Yamatai. She now suffers her father’s fate: Trinity, the evil entity in pursuit of its’ own devious agenda, covers up her experience on Yamatai and discredits her within the scientific community. In her relentless search for the truth behind immortality, she travels to the Siberian city of Kitezh with Trinity in close pursuit. Lara seeks to discover Kitezh’s secrets and thwart Trinity’s attempt at obtaining them. Players can craft items they need to survive from scavenging the environment.  Crystal Dynamics updated the combat system to include many more options for stealth gameplay. Onward adventurer, many treasures and mysteries await you!   

Rodea the Sky Soldier

An original action game based in the sky, players control Rodea, a machine soldier, as he seeks to once again protect the sky kingdom of Garuda from the evil Naga empire. A thousand years after his first successful defense of Garuda, Rodea is repaired by a Garudian inventor named Ion. He awakes to find that Garuda has known peace from the Naga Empire for over a thousand years. The peace is short lived as the Naga Empire once again invades; Rodea sets out to do what he did many, many years ago-defend the skies of Garuda. Players who preordered or receive first print copies receive bonus content-the game in its original Wii form.    

Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void

The third installment in the Starcraft II trilogy, Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void focuses on the Protoss species. Playing as the main protagonist Artanis, players test their diplomacy skills as they seek to unite different Protoss tribes. Players must tread carefully, however, as befriending one tribe risks alienating another and permanently altering the direction of the campaign. Players must successfully unite the tribes to work as one to both ensure the Protoss’ survival and fend off the evil Amon.

Superbeat: Xonic

Based on the arcade game Beatcraft Cyclon, players use the Vita’s touchscreen or buttons to tap notes to the beat of various songs. The game features three modes of difficulty, a global leaderboard, 50 different songs from different genres and even boasts original content from producers such as Tsukasa, 3rd Coast and ND Lee. Superbeat: Xonic also features a world tour mode-missions that unlock as the player progresses in level. Missions are set in one of fourteen dance clubs that are located across the globe.
