And one journey ends

September 2008 I started a journey to a new career.  I went back to school and took an accounting program at a community college.

When I completed the program in April 2011, I figured that I was pretty good at it and enjoyed so I enrolled in a commerce program starting in September 2011.  I graduated from that program in 2013.  In May 2013 I started working at an accounting firm, with the intent of pursuing a professional accounting designation.

Things I've learned in the last two weeks

Saying "I'll just have water" at a staff function at which you're not paying gets you stares, even when you qualify that you're trying to eat healthier.

No matter how hard you try, you can't hide the taste of maca powder in anything.  It comes through, no matter what.

I'm not sure I like maca powder.  I'll finish it, because I bought it.  But never again.

Apparently, "good quality" loose leaf green tea means "this is what you'd expect being teabagged by Aquaman would taste like". Salty?  No.  "Vegetal".  *shudder*

Healthy Choices

Way back at the beginning of the year, I posted a blog on why I don't make New Year's resolutions.  The timing, being completely arbitrary, is at a piss-poor time of year for those of us in northern climates.  Stress of the holidays, short days, and bitterly cold temperatures don't exactly encourage one to get out and be active.

Especially when you don't like winter activities, like skiing or skating.  Basically, I hate winter and everything about it except how pretty the trees look with fresh snow (evergreens) or frost (hibernating deciduous trees).

Covers 2, The cover strikes back

The problem with choosing to do a running series of posts on something – surprisingly – isn’t actually sitting down and writing the post.  For me, it’s choosing which cover to do next.  There are so many covers of songs in which the cover is interesting on the basis of how it changes the interpretation of the original.  It’s something I’ve grown to enjoy about music, as opposed to my youth when I preferred the original (first version I’d heard, anyway) of a song; and, I didn’t really enjoy live versions of the song when it deviated from the studio recording I’d listened to so often.

Covers, a new series, maybe?

I’ve always loved music.  Who doesn’t, right?  Way back in my childhood, I would rock out the air guitar to the new Bon Jovi tunes on the radio (back when Slippery When Wet was new…), Corey Hart (c’mon, I was 6, and it was the 80’s … ), that was when I’d stop playing my only Beatles tape.  It may have been the 80’s, but my parents listened to “classic” rock most of the time, so I grew up also believing that Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, and The Beatles were new music.  Well, it was new to me, at least (but I was 6, remember, everything was new!)

It's official, I did it

Today I got the last of the marks I was waiting from my winter semester.  Technically, once I knew I passed corporate tax, it was a safe bet that I would be graduating this June.  It wasn't that tax was hard, it was that I have no idea what the prof was looking for when answering questions.  The solutions to homework always included stuff that wasn't part of the question, but would be if information was different.  Not that you would know what might be different, but that it could possibly be different in the given scenario, and therefore what would be the impact of the changes.  It was fru

Happy New Year and Resolutions

Happy New Year, 2Old2Play!

2012 wasn't too shabby, the world didn't end and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria made up for the fail that was the Cataclysm expansion.  Ms. Plato recently suggested I should re-activate my gold subscription for the year and get Halo4.  She's the best, ain't she?

Where does the time go?

Wow .... it's been almost a year and a half since I last posted a blog

I barely have time to do more than lurk around these days - my gaming has taken a backseat to school for most of the year, and work+school during the summers.  I've only recently completed the last of my course work for a "distance" course I'm enrolled in for the summer, though I still have the exam to write in August.

For Dastard!

Read this today, and after reading Dastard's blog yesterday I knew I had to share this.

Also, this comic is damned funny; I started reading it yesterday and finished today.  The artwork in the first few is a bit rough, but it gets better.  The writing and story cohesion are excellent.

Windows 7 Upgrade

So one of the benefits of being a college student these days seems to be great prices on Microsoft products.  So I purchased a version of WIn7 Pro, but now I'm unsure of how to go about upgrading my laptop.

The laptop I'm using is a Toshiba Satellite L300, running Win Vista.  It's currently a 32-bit OS, so that's the version I choose for the upgrade.  In hindsight, I think I should have gone with the 64-bit version, so that I could actually use that 4 gigs of RAM this thing has.
