I just wanted to check this thing out.  Neat.  Now I can blog twice!!!!

I have been in the Press & Writers Guild (hmmm, is it a guild?) for maybe a year.  I started out as a gopher sorta person...you know, go fer this, go fer that.  I did some editing, some writing, and whatever else.  Like J-Cat said, this is a great group that works harder than any of you could ever know.  And it is all volunteer.  Except for the little perks that doodi hands out, which we won't talk about.  When someone writes an article, it is simply not just posted.  It goes thru aggressive editing and is looked at by several people before final approval by our man, Drost.  We also work on group projects, which you see from time to time on the front page.  We try to raise money.  We promote the LAN and other 2o2p activities.  And we talk a lot of smack to each other, cuz nobody else can find our little hidden forum.  We welcome any article that anyone wants to write, but, be aware that it may not make the front page.  Well, maybe not soon, anyways.  Again, we are all volunteers and have real life to tend to.  And this site has gotten so big, that, well, we just have to think bigger.

That's my intro.  Most of you know me cuz I blog a lot.  Now you know I do other things, too.  Well, I mean, on the site.....

here! here! as a teacher, I've thought for years that there is too much myth in what we teach our students about American History tainted with politics and opinions. I get irked at the month-long Black history month - (I believe African Americans deserve EQUAL recognition). It would be amazing to have a Native American holiday or celebration.

Glad to see ya' blogging again. As you say, this place was already inhabited, AND he didn't even "find" the continental U.S. What happened here even into the 1800's and 1900's was criminal and never should have happened. Frankly, I don't celebrate Columbus day and if it was replaced by an American Indian day, I would welcome it.

What the history classes should teach is that the strong overcome the weak and that conquest is the way of the world. There is no doubt that the history of Europeans in the America is littered with horrible events, broken treaties, and atrocities but that's a thread that common to conquered people worldwide since the dawn of time....it sucks to lose.....

Columbus was a buffoon, I won't dispute that. And though it was completely by accident, Columbus did discover America. The rest of the world knew nothing about America; Columbus found it and recorded it. The world discovered America, through Columbus, and its inhabitants. You say Columbus simply brought attention to America and her people. That makes it sound like the world knew of America but chose to ignore it. It was, by definition, a discovery. I don't have anything against some kind of Native American day, and would encourage it because its important to recognize Native Americans. I do not, however, believe we should change Columbus Day. Like it or not, it was an historic event. The world may not be what it is today if not for Columbus. I have to say, I kind of get the feeling you have some prejudices for people that aren't Native American. If I'm wrong, then I humbly apologize. If I have offended you with my post, then I apologize. It wasn't my intent to antagonize, but to comment on my thoughts.
