Shared on Sun, 10/01/2006 - 03:07I started my last blog post talking about how there are so many cool things to do. That number of cool things is about to grow streadily over the next couple months. Let's take a look at a release list, from Gamefaqs.com for the Xbox 360:
10/17 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent
11/01 Forza Motorsport 2
11/07 Call of Duty 3
F.E.A.R.
Fuzion Frenzy 2
Gears of War
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Las Vegas
Is it me, or is that about $420 just gone? Sign me up, I'll add 'em to my library. Eating? Don't need it, I need to diet anyway. Time with family? Who needs it? WoW? Eh, could use a break anyway. Well, could step away long enough to play some quality 360 games. The thing is, this is the first batch of games since GRAW that I've been interested in buying. And it's about freaking time. WIthout further delay, here is my 360 Christmas gift to myself.
Splinter Cell is the title that I'm the most passive about. Will it be fun? Probably. Will the online multiplayer be something I'll enjoy. Not sure. I like the past couple Splinter Cell games only enough to play through once, though I didn't always make it through each game. Normally lost interest, and I'm hoping that the new title stays varied enough in story and action to keep me hooked through the end. For me, this is probably a rental. Just saved myself $60.
Next out is Forza 2. Another wish-washy, flip-floppy title for me. I liked the first one, and thought it was fun, but PGR3 is in my current collection. Will Forza 2 have the speed and online experience that will make me want to upgrade? Again, not sure. Probably wait to hear back from some 2o2p folks or rent this one too. Another $60 still in my pocket. Holidays are almost looking affordable.
Then BAM! 5 games that will come home and have their way with me. CoD3 is looking to be an exciting follow-up to their last WWII shooter. Looks solid, and I'm sure I've got to have this one. I hope the online play allows for larger battles, and that the destructable cover isn't an over-used gimmick. I just want good gameplay. F. E. A. R., out on the 360 after being a good selling PC title. We saw it at E3, and it looks good. I hope that the single player is captured well, as I am looking forward to a scary shooter. Condemned (most underrated game on the 360, imho) had some similar elemtents, and it just couldn't capture a large enough audience. The promise of multiplayer gives F. E. A. R. the edge. Ring it up. Fuzion Frenzy 2 is the next title on the list for Nov. 7. While you're rolling your eyes, you'll be hard pressed to find a non-Halo four-player game that is entertaining and easy to pick up. Laugh all you want, but I know this title was a keeper on the original Xbox, and this one will be no different. Heck, the first one is backwards compatible. Go pick it up if you can find it.
Do I even need to mention Gears of War (Collectors Edition, of course, since I'm just throwing money around)? I don't think so, as the videos that are coming out keep looking better and better. Just a little over a month away, and this may be the next game I'm playing until Halo 3 comes out. Single player looks sweet, and I can't wait to see the multiplayer. What's going to make a good single player game this generation? Online co-op. Single player isn't enough to buy a game any more, it's all about the multiplayer. While deathmatch is cool, I'm all about storming the single player campaign with a friend, one of the best features of the Halo series, but one that was dying to be taken onto Xbox Live.
Rainbow Six: Las Vegas is the last title to ring up on this transaction. With a mixed history of success and failure (Lockdown anyone?), this next title looks to be a possible return to glory for the Rainbow Six franchise. It's purely as a leap of faith that I toss my $60 to Ubisoft in the hopes of not being disappointed. I don't think I will be.
So that's it for my 360 purchase list for this holiday. Santa, if you're reading, I've been such a good boy this year. I'll mail you my Wii wish-list, and I'll hope you deliver. Also, if you could find a time machine so that I can somehow manage to play all this crap, that would be a great stocking stuffer. Thanks.
