With the other recent events in my personal life (see previous posts if youre dying to know) putting me in a bad spot, I moved in with my parents last week. Nothing is a better reminder of how great your life and freedom are even when you are at your lowest low than when you move in back in with your parents. I never thought I would, but here I am. Try to contain your jealousy as I describe my gaming woes.
First, my parents dont have a TV that I can hook my 360 up to. Its not for the lack of cables (thats a quick fix), its simply the lack of accesible TVs. In the kitchen, theres a TV neatly built in to the cabinets above the fridge. Cords hanging down as youre getting a beverage wasnt an acceptable option. In the master bedroom (not my room, of course, theirs) theres a TV on their dresser. Accessable, but not good for gaming with their earlier bed times. Now the living room offers the most heartache. A glorious 60" plasma is mounted on the wall. The problem is that it was professionally installed, and my parents placed all the components to it (cable box, VCR, DVD player, etc.) in a hall closet. The Bose sound system kicks ass, and I want to fire up COD2 and GRAW, but Im too techtarded to figure it out. Aside from that, I would recieve the parental frown the entire time I was attempting to hook it up. Theyre not big fans of video games. Okay, to be fair, its mostly Mom that doesnt approve.
Speaking of not approving, they (okay, I mean she) give me a bad time when I play WoW. My mom doesnt like me being on the computer, acting like Im missing out on real life. I have family here and hang out with them daily. However, my hour or two of game time that I would use to relax is seen as anti-social. So, what should I be doing instead? How about sitting on the couch watching TV with my Mom? That is a family approved activity. No, seriously. I dont watch much TV. I have my laptop set up in the kitchen, which is the central nervous system of any house Ive ever lived in. When people come in and talk, I listen and converse. When I watch TV, I zone out and just sit there. In WoW and on XBL, I have friends. On TV, I have no friends (though if I were on TV, I know that Id roll like the crew in Entourage. My mom missed the boat on how social gaming can be, and she doesnt care to hear about it.
Granted, I dont want to be that guy that shrieks at sun light (it burns, it burns!!!). I want to go out, have a job, be productive. MJ inspired me to start another diet which Im sure Ill quickly drop, but I did start exercising today. Half hour of walking, eat it MJ! I dont want to live on my computer or on my Xbox. I just want time to unwind and hang out with friends. I miss you damn bastards, but I aint got the power to do a thing about it.
Apparently Im still waiting for my scrotum to drop. I always was a late bloomer.
