Exactly what did you expect?

My son, Alabama Slayer, has been collecting parts for his car stereo for about a year now.  We put a nice JVC radio and 2 new 6" door speakers last summer.  We put 2 new 6"X9" last winter.  For Christmas he got 2 12" subwoofers and he bought a box to put them in.  The amp for said subs came in last week.  Seriously, this is the biggest amp I have ever seen.  Granted, my car stereo experience is limited, but this thing is about twice as wide as my laptop and 4 times thicker.  Anyway, for the last 2 days after school he and couple of his friends have been installing this monstrosity and he proudly drove up in  the yard tonight with the volume at half power.  The wife comes flying into the living room, "What the hell is that, do we have company?"

"That's your son coming home"

"No way, that's too loud, he can't do that!"

"Honey, just what did you expect when he got 2 feet of speakers, a 4 foot box to put them in that amplifies bass, and an amp the size of a suitcase?"

Seriously, I live on a 2 lane US hwy and there are times you can hear thump long before you actually see the car.  That's what this is.  Don't get me wrong, my wife is a smart woman, but has problems understanding not only the macho mind set that almost requires your car windows to vibrate when you listen to music, but the complicated electronics that go along with that mind set.  What really sets if off is Slayer doesn't listen to the radio.  We specifically got the JVC because it had an AUX port so he could plug his Zune directly in.  Now he has downloaded the most bass heavy songs he can find.  Let the good times roll

Brings back memories, but we didn't have the ground shaking bass back then. But it was cool how the GF knew when we were about two blocks away so she was on the porch waiting and we didn't have to get out of the car :smt109

Haha. I bet you feel proud though. :) Just a few years and my son will be doing the same.

I don't think people inside the car with such monster stereos realize how shitty they sound from the outside because all I ever here is rattle rattle rattle rattle as the joints in the car vibrate. SOunds like total shit.

I remember doing all of that for a truck I had as a young man...till it all got stolen one early winter morning. Better get that kid a car alarm. Tank has a point. As much as I love to listen to metal loud, I hear those teenagers at stoplights and all I hear is the sounds of the car exterior vibrating their way off of the supports they're welded to. I can't even tell what music it is they are listening to.
