The Romance is over...

It had to happen.  I have jumped completely off the Auburn University bandwagon.  To those of you not from the South (your loss), college football is a religion.  In the state of Alabama, you CAN'T not root for some team.  When Auburn fired Terry Bowden for not sounding southern, I said never again but came back.  When certain college trustees flew to Louisville to interview a new football coach when they hadn't even hinted at firing Tuberville, I said never again, but when Tubbs went 11 and 1, I came back.  When Tuberville resigned after fighting a losing battle for 11 years with again, those certain trustees, I came close.  But now, they turned down a game with UCLA in 2010.  I can't root for wussies.  Therefore, I am in the market for a new favorite college football team.  I'm hoping some of the people on here can help me, but I have a few conditions:

1.  They can't be from the state of Florida (too good, beat my teams regularly, obnoxious fans, etc.)

2. Before Dos suggests Alabmam, it can't be another SEC team.

3. No Big 12 teams, no Big 10 teams (2 of the most consistently overrated conferences)

4.  They must have cool uniforms so even if they lose, I can say my teams looks better than yours.

5.  They must more majors than basket weaving and phys. ed. (Auburn has engineering as well, squeaked that one by)

6.  At least one of the nicknames has to be cool (again, that rules out Alabama)

7.  They must be in a big boy conference.

8.  It would be nice if they were in the Eastern or Central time zones so I can watch the games.

9.  They must have been in the top 10 in the last 10 years.

Can you see my dilemma?  I'm a Troy University alum, but they only went Division 1 for the money, I can't root for a team that's the team big boys schedule for homecoming.  Any suggestions anyone has will be appreciated, and I will do all due research to find out if they meet my criteria.  By the way, my brother in law threatened me if I started rooting for the Wrambling Wreck.  I can take him but would rather avoid the hassle, potential lawsuits, etc.

Very Easy solution to your problem... How about a team who is always on TV whether you are from the South or not... Nationally Televised.. No affiliation with the South... Always used to be one of the top teams in the country and will be their again. You guessed it NOTRE DAME THE FIGHTING IRISH!!!!! This solves your problem.

Georgia Tech. I'm an AZ Wildcats fan, so that's a good option, too. They didn't meet a couple of your criteria though (8 and 9).

Of course, you are wrong about the Big 12 being consistently overrated (2 National Championships in this decade), but my only thought that meets all of your criteria was Va. Tech. 1. Not a Fla school 2. Not in SEC 3. Not Big 12 or Big 10 4. pretty cool unis 5. I'm not sure about the academics 6. Hokies is nice 7. ACC is sorta a big boy conference (at least it is BCS) 8. Eastern time zone 9. Top 10 the majority of the last 10 seasons

I'm not completely sure, but I think VT might just meet your criteria. Go Hokies!

For sadness. I'm an auburnite myself and have been wondering what has been going on with our sports program. I do have one good piece of juicy gossip...Bobby Lawder is retiring/being fired over the whole Tuberville debacle this year. YAY !!! No more overlord asshattery from him.
