Shared on Tue, 04/13/2010 - 08:42Spring has finally gotten to the deep south. 80 degrees, bright sunshine, low humidity, would be perfect except for the yellow clouds of pollen rolling around. Seriously, in the mornings you can grab handfuls of pine pollen off the back bumper of your car.
Sometimes it's fun to play to the typical southern redneck stereotype. We were talking about rain the other night and I mentioned if it doesn't rain soon the stickers are going to take over my yard. Yankees didn't know what I was talking about, so in my best southern drawl I tried to explain. Trust me, I do the drawl better than most. Lots of comments about back woods, rednecks, and on it continued to moonshine, using the metal of your doublewide as a conductor for wireless internet and charging your neighbors, and my favorite, using your cousins for practice. The thing is, every comment I've heard about rednecks, I know somebody that resembles the remark. That's the thing about stereotypes, they're created for a reason, for the most part they're true. From people who know me, I don't take it personally. I hate country music, don't own a pickup, and don't live in a trailer (any more). I have running water inside the house, 2 bathrooms inside, and electricity. But sometimes it's fun to pretend I collect trailer axles in the yard, have a pickup truck on blocks in the yard with a belt from it running through a window to run the clothes dryer, and pee outside. Ok sometimes I do pee outside but with 2 women in the house you'd be surprised how many times both bathrooms are being used.
That's all from LA (lower Alabama). Y'all come back now, ya hear?
