I got a new TV for the kids last year about this time. Yesterday it went dead when they were playing xbox on it. I ca't find the receipt, so BestBuy says that they will not honor any manufacture warranty without proff of purcahse.
It turns out that only if you buy extended warranty they will keep track off sales.
Who the fuck programed their MRP ????
So if I just get another tv same model and pay again cash, I can just take the old one back the same day saying that it does not work. WTF.

if you paid with a card, even a debit card, they can pull the record, from an experenced best buyer

Also, before you box swap, realize that many units have the serial number for the unit on the packaging. They will open the box and look at the unit. Then when they do not match, they will tell you to go fly a kite, and snicker at you as you leave.

Stick with Costco, they are not only cheaper but have a no hassle return policy. I just helped my Dad get a sweet 46" Vizio from their last week for $1699 (this will be a good excuse for you to use the "kids" TV, haha).

I did what you suggested with my original xbox. I didn't have a receipt and they wouldn't honr the warranty so I went and bought another xbox swapped serial number tags (very carefully) and walked out with my new xbox. Next day returned the other xbox and had my credit card refunded. It was a huge pain but I still have that xbox...along with my 360. i did buy the ext warranty on it though. But have since lost the receipt and warranty info. Hopefully it doesn't die or BB can lookup the info.
