Shared on Mon, 12/20/2010 - 09:03Long story short, I had a company event at our new facility, parked my car at Marta (Atlanta's inefficient version of a subway) at 7:00AM and returned at 9:30PM on Friday. My passenger window was smashed, and my GPS was stolen. Jokes on them, the GPS was starting to go tits up. Anyway, I had left the bracket in the window, but the unit was on the floorboard. The Marta police didn't want me to file a report, which I found odd, as I routinely check their KPI's. After explaining to the guy that even though I would not be filing a claim, and that I know that there is virtually no chance that the crime will even get a second glance, the data is important to capture for performance metrics. I'm sure I came off as a geek, but after some solid insistence on my part, they gave in, and the report was filed. It irked me that they didn't even want to go through the motions of any sort of police work (Marta has it's own police department). This set off a general crankiness towards humanity that would last throughout the weekend.
Got Splatterhouse on an Amazon deal. Hate it. The basic problem is that you've got this supposed bad ass dude, but he's so underpowered compared to the enemies you face. Another problem is the quicktime events, and enemy grapples. In the qt's, you have no freakin' time to actually do the action indicated. When going for a splatter kill or some nonsense like that, you need to move your left and right thumbsticks in the designated direction, however, you have no time to do this, and the directions change. For the grapples, you need to hit the left stick back and forth rapidly, but you have no time to do this, and it generally results in losing 1/3 of your health. Next problem - it is a Japanese game, so there are checkpoints, and repetition if you die. I can understand starting the room you're in over when you die, but going three rooms back? There's no excuse for that with resources available to today's games. Japanese developers have become lazy and complacent, and games like this are prime examples. There was one nice part of the game - in some sections, it reverts to a 2D view, bringing back a little of the original gameplay. A nice little addition.
