Kindle/Nook?

I go through phases where I'll read a lot, and then mellow it out for a while.  After my 6 books back to back last month, I'm ready to jump in again.  I've been somewhat intrigued by the e-readers, and this was amplified a bit when I walked into Barnes & Noble the other day looking for an iPhone development book.

Doing my research, it appears the Kindle has a slight edge over the Nook.  However, one thing that jumped out at me was the navigation being slightly better on the Nook.  Controls are just something that infuriate me, so this one has me leaning a bit towards Nook.  One thing to keep in mind though, the Nook has shorter battery life, which is important.  I think both would easily last me a week of commuting, and then charge on Sunday or so. 

Price wise, it's about even.  E-books may be a small amount lower with Kindle than with Nook.  Neither one would be a good comic reader, but I don't want to introduce that argument in my head, as it opens the door to the iPad.

Final tangible piece, the Nook has about 500,000 more books available than does Kindle.

I don't know...maybe I should stick to analog books.

I wish I could help you. I have been having the same debate in my head for the past month or so. I am leading towards the Kindle but an iPad might be nice. I like the price of the Kindle a lot more. What to do, what to do?

I have had a Kindle for over a year now and I LOVE it. There hasn't been a book I wanted yet that wasn't available. As far as navigating the kindle store, you are right in that it is a little clunky but not overly so. The things I like most are the readability of the screen and the battery time. I have been an avid reader all my life (about two hours a night) and I noticed the complete disappearance of eyestrain when I got my kindle. Battery time is epic. I can read for almost two weeks sometimes (I turn the 3g off when I am not actively shopping) between charges. You can charge it from a laptop too which is nice when you are on the road. Means less outlets to find. So far after a year of HARD use I can find only one con to reading on my kindle vs real books. If I drop a real book in the tub it costs me $10. Dropping a Kindle in the tub is considerable more expensive. Lastly, Amazon just revealed the new regular size Kndle for $180 and a wi-fi only kindle $139. At $140 I may be getting one of those for my dad for xmas.

I read about the Kindle in Consumer Reports, which is the one they recommend for price/battery life. That would be my choice if/when I buy.
