UPS is the Devil; Finally got Skryim

Really, not much to say about Skyrim.  I finally got to play it yesterday.  Kind of funny, I felt a feeling of panic once I got out of the keep and was dumped off in the big open world.  Pretty much feel the same way I do about other Elder Scrolls/Fallout games - combat is feast or famine.  I'm inclined to play a melee character, but in these games, range seems to be where it's at.  Will play around with it some more.

So, my real gripe about Skyrim comes not from the game itself, but the manner in which it actually got into my possession.  I preordered from Amazon, release date delivery with Prime like I've done 60+ times this year.  I come home on Friday, expecting a box with my precious game.  No, there is a note on my door - signature delivery required.  Oddly, the option to have them redelivery was crossed out.  I call, and schedule to pick it up that night.  A minor inconvenience, but at this point, not a big deal.  I call the automated line, tell it to hold for pick up.  A man calls me 2 hours later and says I can pick it up after 6:45 (but neglects to give me the address).  At 6:45, I leave the house, figuring I'll give them some extra time.  I arrive at 7:10pm, and the place is dark.  I go up to the door and it says hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 7:00pm.  This sends me into a fit.  I get with Amazon who assures me that they did not require the signature (they say the dollar amount is $1300 for them to require signature).  I call UPS and finally get through to a human, who is of no help.  They're telling me that Amazon required it. I had debated letting it sit at UPS and just picking it up from Best Buy, but on my way home from work yesterday, decided I'd swing by and get it from UPS.  I asked the lady what was up, and she said Amazon requires a signature on everything during the Christmas season.  I wanted to yell "LIAR!!!!" but she really was a nice lady, and I didn't want her to bear the brunt of my anger for a screw up on their part.

My working theory - UPS just revealed a new scam.  http://www.ups.com/mychoice/index.html?WT.mc_id=UPS_HP_MyCSignupNow_P1&WT.ac=UPS_HP_MyCSignupNow_Mrktg_P1_U1_en_us  UPS MY Choice.  Basic premise, for $40/year, they will actually give you the privilege of delivering your packages!!!!  Now, you can set up a timeframe for your package to be delivered.  Hey, it's a 2 hour window, but that's still better than Comcast, right?  Woo-hoo!  You can also electronically authorize packages to be dropped at your door - it doesn't matter if the shipper hasn't requested a signature!  Fucking scam!

I have my Kindle Fire and Halo CE coming today.  If they pull the same shit, I'll be pissed.  Granted, there's nothing much I can do.  I've made a formal complaint with Amazon, but I doubt my little complaint with have enough critical mass behind it for Amazon to tell UPS to cut the shit.
