Weekend Gaming

I had a relatively good weekend with gaming.  I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked, but got to get some things accomplished.

I finished up Arcania.  All in all, it was a decent time.  Towards the end, it got a little repetitive, and the ending wasn't all that satisfying.  I may go back for some achievement clearing in the future.  I was somewhat miffed that I was 10000 xp points away from hitting level 30.

Put some more time into LA Noire.  I'm liking the game, but I really, really don't like the GTA-ness of the side missions.  I hate that whenever I try to drive from point A to point B in an investigation, there are always side missions popping up.  Sure, I can ignore them, but I feel compelled to respond and thus, am taken out of the investigation at hand.  I wish there was a better mechanic for this - even something as simple as not going into the next case right away, so I can work on film reels, cars, side cases, etc... I just don't like getting immersed in an investigation only to be continually sidetracked with 3 side missions between each step in the.  Let me play the freakin' game and stop taking me out of the story.  I can completely understand and appreciate having the side missions to break up the monotony of investigations, but I would prefer if this was done on my terms, not the game's.  Sure, one could make the argument that you can just ignore the calls, and continue on, but when I'm playing, I feel like I have to respond.

I picked up two games this weekend - The Witcher 2 and Black College Football Experience.  The Witcher was on sale for 35, so I felt obligated to bite, even though I would have preferred picking it up through Steam.   BCFX was on clearance for $15, so I figured why not.  As a first stab at football, I thought they did a decent job.  However, it is glitch ridden (a punt return for a touchdown counts as a pass?) and really, doesn't hold a candle to the NCAA franchise.  Surely, this franchise can't go anywhere.  No impressions of the Witcher 2 at this time - I installed it late Saturday night, and that was all I've done.

Oh yeah, I also preordered the new Deus Ex, but through OnLive in order to get a free OnLive appliance.  I don't really need it with my gaming rig, but I thought it might be cool to put on one of the sets so the lady and the kids can play some stuff here and there.
