Thanks for the armed escort, but I’ll be fine from here.

It looks as if society has decided to once again, go retarded.  I don’t think I can go into details, but my office is currently being guarded by the Department of Homeland Security. There are a lot of rumors going around as to why, but I don’t think we’ll ever be told the exact reason.

On the WoW front….'
There was a big patch yesterday…a patch I could download with only 400mb to spare…..it’s a shame that I then couldn’t install it after I downloaded it thanks to the 40gb HDD on this PC….so it’s time for a new desktop…..and we’ll be leaving early today to pick it up. It’s an Asus, AMD Phenom II 6 core 2.8ghz processor, 8gb or RAM, 1tb HDD, 1Gb Vid card, and 10 USB ports, because there is no such thing as too many USB ports. I know I wanted to build one myself, but this was a pretty nice deal and can’t simply ignore it.

In other news….
I had a bizarre event unfold yesterday…. My dad and I kind of bonded…if anyone remembers the long ago blogs, I never really got along with my father….my infallible sister (the unemployed house wife with the top of her class Doctorate in Law.) was always the topic of discussion.    My mom still insists it’s because my father and I are so much alike….which my wife agrees with.

Well, my father was taking down a tree in his front yard and I promised my mom I’d be there to make sure he didn’t keel over from a heart attack. Not to toot my own horn but I’m a bit of a ninja with a chainsaw, the large pine tree was down, sliced and diced in 5 min and we started dragging off the chunks. Afterward we talked for a bit. We discussed my plans for work, and a lot of other things, but he said something I don’t’ think I can ever remember him doing before.   He said he was proud of me….I almost fell over…..Then the fun started.

We set up some targets and did some shooting. It was my father’s first time shooting a pistol (my mom refuses to let him shoot one, but she wasn’t there.) for his first time he didn’t do too bad…..not too good, but not bad. at 15yards he managed to hit 4 claybirds on the target board out of 30 or so rounds….but pistols take a lot of practice to use effectively.   I had a particularly good streak (much better than normal) only missing 2 out of 45 shots…..then we heard my mom behind us……uh oh….

My dad leaned in to me and whispered as my mom walked down the hill, “”the only way we’re getting out of this is to get her to shoot one”….um….we? I’m allowed to have pistols, he isn’t’….I’m not the one in trouble….but sure…I’ll help.   After a bit of convincing my mother says, “fine, I’ll shoot one”, picks up the .357, loads a round slaps the cylinder closed, one hands it and completely obliterates the center target, opens the cylinder, slaps the ejector and hands me the revolver….. To say that my dad and I were stunned is an understatement. I knew my mom did a lot of target shooting when she was a kid, but HOLY HELL, I think my mom was some kind of secret assassin or something.

I know she made the decision to block my dad from getting a handgun around the time they had my sister and I, but we never heard the reason….we always thought it was just out of inexperience and fear that we’d find it and blow our heads off, but I’m starting to think that there is something else going on there.
