Weekend project.

After a bit of discussion with a distributor, I finally have the scope mounts I ordered 3 weeks ago, and phase 1 of my custom Taurus PT24-7 Pro project has finally been assembled (a task some said would be impossible )…. Or so I though.

Turns out the 32mm Red dot sight I picked up is, well, a bit big. And by ‘a bit’ I mean WAY too friggin big.
Next item on the list to try will be a reflex sight, this time I will borrow one as opposed to buying one and keeping my fingers crossed that it will fit. Granted this red dot is a SUPER cheap-o, It will eventually find a home on one of my future projects.
Oh, and yes, that is a laser on the bottom rail, I had that set up with a bore sight, and was using it to sight in the red dot. (it will not be there in the final build).

Phase 2 will hopefully involve finding a compatible 5” barrel that I can get threaded and linked up with a compensator/barrel weight.

In other news, my in-laws have purchased a Kinect. Based on a short demo of Kinect at our house, they have chosen Xbox 360 and Kinect as their new workout tool. We went over on Friday to help them set it up, then as a family we played late into the night.   Let’s face it, Kinect is no fad, it is the revolution Microsoft predicted it would be.

That sight looks like it belongs on an AR-15. Like the Taurus. Agree about the Kinect.

@CMA, yes, it was sold as a "fits all" sight, but all of the images in the manual show it on an AR.

I am in no ways a gun guy, so pardon my completely ignorant question if there's a simple solution I'm not considering. The laser is set up on the bottom, a distance from the gun barrel itself. Therefore, is the laser target "dead on" or is it an approximation of where the bullet would end up? Is there some sort of tilt applied to the laser to make it project closer to where the bullet would actually go? In that case, is it accurate to x at y feet and x-w at z feet? Say you were shooting at a target, and the pointer is at a position, would you then know that your mark will actually be a couple cm or so above that, or does it even out? Not sure I framed the question coherently, but that's something that's been nagging at me for a while.

no, I understand what you are asking, I have both the Red Dot and the laser focused at 15 yards, any closer and the laser would aim low, and the red dot would aim high, further than 15 yards, and the opposite is true. At longer ranges(100+yards) you have to work hard to adjust for the rise and drop of the bullet along it's path, on my hunting rifle at 25 yards I have to aim 1" high, at 75 yards I'm right on target, but at 100, I aim a half inch low to be on target (being the apex of the bullet's path), from then on the bullet has a slow drop out t my max range of 375yards where I am aiming almost 12inches high to be on target. So with a laser on top of the gun the bullet would pass through it 2x as it rises and falls. With the low monetary investment I have in the red dot, I'd still use the iron sights if it were anything other than just playing around shooting cans/paper targets. But for this project I chose 15 yards because it is my ideal range, I have about a 2" group at that range, though I feel reasonably comfortable out to 30 yards, but my grouping expands to about 6". Anything over 35 yards, I wouldn't even try unless it was a life or death situation (which never comes up in target shooting/competitions).

Half way down on this link is a good example of how optics (scopes and red dots) work vs ballistics http://demigodllc.com/articles/practical-long-range-rifle-shooting-optics/

Great Pistol, fired one of those myself. Love the Taurus brand. Little bulky with that reflex site. Seems like it would take forever to get it from a hip fire position to aiming down the sites. But still great weapon, looks awesome!
