Shared on Fri, 03/02/2012 - 21:09So things "seem" to be stable on the server end and all the hardware has been installed. Over the next couple weeks we will be working to fix up groups and get them to where everyone is remotely happy (we know thats not possible for some).
Before that however lets have a word about the content from V2.
Yes we chose NOT to port forum content over. Hontestly there was simply to much of it and the time vs. moving forward was just not worth it. If our ultimate goal is to bring more flexibility to clans and open up our community then ditching the old forums was a necessary step in getting there.
However, this does not mean that your content is gone. As a way to preserve the old site, we have backed everything up and will make it all availible in "read only" forum in the coming week. This means if you had any vital information it is still there. We have no plans on ditching that content and we could revist a time to bring some of it back as we fix up V3.
For those of you who have comment about their intense hatred for V3 all I can say is, damn that hurts. Normally I wouldnt care (its been a rough couple days), but after 3 years, tons of my own cash (remember how this site's free), and support from members I couldn't be prouder of how things have turned out. I know many of you don't live out side your clan, but keep in mind there is an entire community here. My goal is to make this a better place for ALL older gamers and since you can't please all the people all the time you can only hope to do your best; and I think after a little while, we'll get there

Not really. What I mean is, there might be a small link somewhere on the footer of the site, but the main goal should be to move things forward and not dwell on the past. The legacy site should be only to recover information to bring here. You won't be able to post or interact with it in any other way so I don't see much point highlighting it.

Perhaps you could somehow publish the legacy site link to admins only. They are the only peopl who should really have any need to go back anyway.

There was a bunch of info i scrounged the web for and started compiling up for the release of Armored Core V. There was pretty indepth info there on tactics and designs by people already playing the Jap version I would love to be able to at least copy and paste back into the main site and not have to go back out there into the interwebs and track it down.
Also would love a General Mech gaming forum to put it in. 8) It would be great to have Legacy Link! Hooray

Admin only access would work for us. We backed up the couple of our threads worth keeping months ago when talk of the V3 switch first started. It would be nice to be able to fill in the gap between then and now. Other than that, I don't think there's any value for us in keeping V2 active. In fact mankind in general might be better off without most of it, like our ass fungus/suppository thread.
FWIW, yesterday was pretty fun. Partially because of that new V3 smell. But mostly because there was a bunch of site traffic (on a Friday even) and all of it was in the open. It would pretty awesome if that could continue.
I like V3. Thanks for being crazy enuf and determined enuf to make it happen.

+ 1 on the admin only part. If anyone needs anything they could just ask for it.
Also I cannot see why anyone would be pissed about the new site as its deffo an upgrade from V2
But like I said, If you change anything that involves people who are 30+, alot aint going to like it
But they will come round to it. Eventually.

And as far as old content, 99.9% of 2old2shoot's content was mindless drivel, dick jokes and people kissing my ass. the .1% had some worth. I'm not too worried about starting over. V2 will be accessable and we'll get what we need then (ie, Fetal's COD tip blogs).
BTW, I don't hate Doodi. I just hate his face. But I will say this. Good job Doodi and DSmooth. The site is running super fast now.

I'd only need a day or two to access the old V2 to retrieve some unread pms and a few stickied topics. Other than that let's move on! FWIW - I tried going to the legacy site, but it asks me to login, and then redirects me to V3.

I say make nothing private, have all clan forums open, and force feed (promote in pc terms) people socializing and getting together. I can not imagine very many topics that are so private they need to be hid from the community in gaming terms. The only things needing to be hidden are talking shit on others. So many posts here in the last 3 days from people who sound butthurt (whether they are or not is the question) about their forums being open to everyone. Seriously, if you give enough of a shit that you think all of your former clan content should be so protected, keep it on your private site or something.
Keep the doors open.

Could not disagree more. In our clan forum there are phone numbers, addresses, personal photos and stories, that non clan members and random trolls surfing the internet do not need to know. If you can't make those things private...kill the content of V2. If it's not private in V3 it will handcuff many members.

I think you just need to be held. People (especially old people) don't like change...once everyone is used to V3, they will see it's better...and then they can start bitching about how much V4 is going to suck. I would definately like to go back and read some old V2 posts...but can you copy & paste from a read only post?
