Once again, I was suprised to discover that the game is actually fun.
From what I get of the basics, this is bloodsport game. Much like the movie The Condemned...minus Steve Austin and bad acting.
Its a Third person over the shoulder Person Shooter. Basically, Kill for POINTS. Holy Shit, does it get any better. Depending on how many people you kill in a row, how long it takes you between kills and where you kill shot lands is how your score is tallied up. (I've been wanting to say Tallied Up all week!)
I've gotten through Two settings so far.
Each "level" is sut up in a zone, So far I have played in a industrial area and Venice. Each level itself is divided into a competition with several rounds each. Each round is different. For example, Kill as many people as you can for a high score and then exit the level, race around under a timer in a closed circuit (think race) and kill as you move for points until the you finish the required number of circuits around the "track"...killing and maiming as you go. There is alos a mode where you have to say in a certain area or explosives in your blood stream will go off, you have to survive the oncoming randomized waves of brainless drones killing for points.
After you get through each level you are rewarded with a point tally...pretty much like any roadrace type game, where you compete for total score..coming in first place nets you 20pts, second 15 and so on and so forth. At the end of the rounds, if you come in first you are rewarded with a "bullet"...I have no idea what this means as I don't get the manual when I get a game through Game Fly...fuckers...
In each map, there are certain bonus areas to shoot for extending your kill streak, improving you score and so on and so forth. There are also the pre-requisit exploding barrels and weapon pick ups.
Weapons range so far from Pistols, sub machine guns, automatic rifles, automatic shotguns, shotguns, Rocket launchers and in one section a true work of art, the portable gatling gun (Think Jesse Ventura in Predator.....on steriods....BLAAAAIIINNNEEEEE!!!!)
The enemie AI, or more to the point, Dolls with Guns are idiots at best, they pretty much rush you or stay behind their areas of cover until you shoot them. (bonus for headshots!), They keep coming and coming until they are gone or until the timer runs out depending on your game type.
Negatives: Well, you have to accept a game for what it is. Its a shooter, a bloody bloody shooter..there is no dialogue, there is no real plot, its just Kill. But for once, you aren't shooting cops. There is quite the difference in level difficulty, and that's my only gripe, medium is a little to difficut to get good scores, and easy is special olympics race team easy. I don't even want to consider what the upper levels are like as far as difficulty. I have not tried the MP, and I am not sure if I will, this one seems a bit limited and more of a "bullet orgy" than anything else really..so the MP isn't something I am dying to get involved in...(especially with RB6V2 coming out soon). Control wise, much like the controls in another Bizzare Creations series, Project Gotham Racing, the Y button allows you to spin 180 degress around to turn around to whatever is right behind you. This is fine if y ou are standing still, but I would not suggest using this as a tactic is you are on the move as it can be pretty disorientating and if you happen to be turning when you do it, you will move in unintended directions...much like the Democratic party.
Positives: Its Fucking VIOLENT to the point of perfection. If the environment was a little more destructable, this would be one FUCK all of a game. You never have to worry about running out of ammo for long, since everyone you kill will have some. Graphically, its a good looking 360 game, nothing really stands out, but it all seems to mesh together well, characters are pretty good for games, they don't appear overly plastic looking and respond well. Audio is nothign to get to excited over really and not worthy of mention nor notice. The control scheme other than the Y button is pretty basic and smooth, its easy to aim and get where you want to go.
All in all, this is a good rental for anyone that likes shooting style games, and Bizzare Creations did a admirable job with it...I had alot of fun with the SP parts I played and I plan on finishing this game over the next week...which is more than I can say for some...cough cough...TimeShift.
I give it...hmmm...8 caps in your ass out of 10.
