So my fiance's son is really into Legos.  REALLY into Legos.  So he decided he wanted to get himself a present yesterday so we loaded up in the car and headed to Toys 'R Us.  And he got himself a present.

The Star Wars Lego set of a Imperial Star Crusier.  Sweet mother of god!  $99.00 for a lego set.  Two booklets of isntructions...upteen thousand pieces.  Give me a break.  Of course...who puts it together?

Not the 8 year old, I can tell you that much.

So after finishing turning his one closet into a shelved storage unit.  I won't eve get into the details as to how wonderfully that went (read aweful) he asked if we could work on his lego set.

In my mind I am going, ok..legos versus Crackdown....legs versus crackdown...

God damned Lego's.  Two hours later I have complete the basisc chasis of the Star Cruser.  Its one of those builds where it is really fragile until you get almost done with the portion and then all of a sudden through the evil magic of lego its formed into some sort of plastic super object that can withstand a earthquake.   I gave up at this point becuase my wrists hurt, my knees were locked up from kneeling on the floor...can't do it on a table, there are to many pieces.

So tonight, who wants to place a wager on wether I will be playing Crackdown or if I will be putting together more lego?

I'm feeling it for you. My 5 y.o. loves legos. His GPs spoil him (which they can, by right) and give him things like the $80 batmobile in legos. It took me about 4 hours to put that *#* thing together and I made him help me the whole time (I probably could have done it on my own in under 3 hours). An hour later it is partially diassembled. I took a deep breath and told my wife "If he learns how it works by taking it apart, fine, but next time HE puts it together." Good luck man. Those things (legos, although the same can be said of kids) can really make you tear you're hair out. It's worth it in the long run to be able to spend time with the kids. I always tell myself that it'll all pay off when he's a world famous (and rich) architect and I can retire at 50. :)

Thats a tough call, depends on the relationship you have with the child. Also depends on the commitment to your video games...lol :)

Here I was thinking that the joy of having a child would be playing with Legos again, but $99? Christ on a credit card!

When I was in Orlando we went to the Lego shop at Downtown Disney. Holy crap I never realized what could be done with Legos. They have entire city scenes built up, huge dragons and stuff. Inside the shop are every Lego set you could imagine--and they even have these big dispensers where you can buy the exact piece you need. Unbelievable.
