Getting Along.

Why can't we all get along.....

It's a question that has been popping up along the way around here quite often. This is not a blog about Terms of Service (TOS), the Banhammer, (Das Bannerhammer) the site admins, the mods or anything in particular with any of those things.

Its about getting along. Or more to the point, why we don't.

People don't like each other often. I have certainly meet in person more people that I don't like than people I do like.

Am I able to function polietly with these people? Yes

Do they know I dislike them? I hope not.

The key is faking it, acting like thigns are normal while the person you interacting with is actually the mental equivalent to nails on a chalkboard.

So why the heck can't we do it here? The blog issue springs to mind. Certain groups being other groups cup o' tea. Certain people defending their opinions above and beyond what they actually need to. The inability to agree to disagree. Why are these things such a unbeatable thing for a internet site? Ahhhh...there's the key..

The internet. We are all Supermen and Superwomen on the net. We are all able to say and act as we wish without the threat of physical hostitily.

When you have a group of ver 8,000 people, there are going to be conflicts. And much like with childred, it tends to occur in phases....big blocks of time when the feces hit the fan. And then, things chill out. And much like children, when this happens its up to the gaurdians...in this case, site admins to step in an lay the law down.

A mostly thankless job I would assume, much like being a parent.

I'm going to start treating you folkes like I would treat you if you were sitting here facing me versus it only being a computer monitor.

But, that doesn't mean I am going to be polite all the time. Piss in my kettle and I will let you know the level of my displeasure.

There have been times here that I have been displeased lately, and I have thought I was being civil about it. Sometimes being civil doesn't work it seems, when I have been as civil as I can manage, I have had a small hammer come down on me. Well, I probably deserved it, I am not in denial over the fact. Hopefully the other side had a small hammer hit them aswell. But I have no idea. And I have come to the conclusion I don't care. I know the members of this site I don't think are my cup of tea. And I know the ones I would defent to the end. The second group, I hope they all know who they are...and NO, they aren't limited or inclusive of all the members of the clan I am affiliated with, they are people all scattered through this site, so this isn't a "Happy Happy my Clan is great whoopie shit" blog. Some of my clan mates piss me off to no end. But, I deal with it.

So maybe thats just what we need to do as a group of more than 8,000 adults...deal with it. Someone makes you unhappy on here, if its not a personal attack, deal with it. Calmly tell them you aren't happy with the matter...and drop it.

Just because we are on the internet, doesn't make us Supermen/women. It makes us anonymous, it makes us caustic and it has been making us jerks.

I don't want to be known as a jerk anymore.

I want my true qualities to shine.
