"...and thanks for all the fish!"

I’ve blogged this in the past, but will restate it again: I suffer from terminal GADD, or Gaming Attention Deficit Disorder.  I get bored of games quickly, and jump from title to title in rapid succession.  Because of this, I rarely finish a game to the end.  Recently, The Darkness was able to shake this habit and keep my attention to the end.  Now, against all odds, a second title steps up to that challenge and wins: BioShock.

Only one word describes the experience – wow.  More appropriately, WOW!  What an unbelievable game.  Graphically gorgeous, masterfully written, and flawlessly executed.  As many have said, the ending was the weakest part of the game, still fit in well and didn’t really detract from the game by any substantial amount.  I was floored again, and again, and again by the game and true “HOLY SHIT” moments.  You know the type – the moments in a movie or game that startle you out of your skin, or get you to scream involuntarily out like a pre-pubescent little girl.  Those moments were quickly followed by a quick intake of air, and the realization that this is what makes gaming fun.

So, my hats off to Irrational Games and 2K for an awesome ride…one so good I just can’t wait to give it another run through right now.

Fantastic game - it was one of the rare games where I enjoyed every second of it and never thought it got tedious. I hope it sets a new bar for a single player adventure game and more developers see what putting this kind of attention and detail in there games can do for them.
