I was fortunate enough to score a copy of the game before newegg.com shut down their order pipeline. Arriving yesterday via UPS, I was greeted by a shiny case and a shitton of styrofoam peanuts. It took all my mental fortitude not to start playing immediately, but instead finish up the day of work at home and watch my daughter at her horseback riding lesson. However, after the kids went to bed, my wife and I started up together, and instantly started laughing out loud again and again over the wild antics. At one point, we must have spent 5 minutes solid just knocking eachother on our collective asses. Unfortunate for me, my wife got proficient with the slapping mechanism, and even managed to knock me off the skateboard during one of the early races, effectively disqualifing me from finishing at all!
As we would have suspected, the game starts with the same Garden levels that we enjoyed during the beta of the game. So for those who were in the testing of the servers, rest assured that you'll know what you're doing right out of the gates, even to the point of knowing how to get those elusive 100% completions on the levels. Everything looks the same for now, except the servers are not yet up and running - not surprising. Textures, colors, etc. are all the same...or at least close enough that I can't tell the difference. However, once you finish the 2nd level of the Gardens, there are some new challenges we didn't see (not just the tie-skipping) as well as the link to the other worlds and areas. I did manage to get a few more pieces to the pirate costume, including a hook for one hand.
Not much of a Day 1 impressions, I know, but with a game of this scope and dependancy on the community, it will be weeks if not months before this title really shows its merit. I'll be very much along for the ride, as will the rest of my family.
