...I'm going to Disney World!

After catching a piece on the Today show this past Monday, my wife and I learned of an extraordinary deal that Disney is running right now. You buy 4 nights, and get 3 free. Now while we were planning on the family vacation in 2010, this bumped it up significantly ... to this January 16th through 23rd! And when I say extraordinary deal...here's what we got for a family of 5:

8 days, 7 nights at the Yacht Club, club level with consierge service.
7 days of passes into the parks, with the Park Hopper, Water Park, Sports Complexs added in.
Roundtrip air from Philadelphia
The top meal plan - 3 sit down meals, 2 snacks per person, per day, at any of the parks or resorts 100+ restaurants, dinner shows, etc.
$200 Disney card for miscellaneous spending
Full travel insurance (no lost luggage here...at least w/o hitting them with a phat $1000 bill if its more than 2 hours late)
Arcade voucher for family to a 5-story, ultra-high tech arcade (rainy weather insurance )

Total after everything, taxes, charges, whatever ... $6900.

For what should be a pretty much all-inclusive vacation, I think that was a pretty good deal. I looked at the dinners at some of the restaurants - $45 steaks. Mmmm....I'm going to eat goooooood.

Either way, I'm psyched for the first "real" family vacation we've had in 14 years of marridge with kids, and hope it meets and exceeds all our expectations. If there are any Disney experts on the site, please feel free to drop any advice in the comments. We're total n00bs to this, so any advice to us is good advice.

Have fun and like they said, "stay in the park" which is huge. No reason to leave. Just wasting time if you do. So stay in Disney. Eat like a pig, swim like a fish, ride all the rides you can sit you butts on, and you and your wife be a kid too. = )

I found a better deal. My mom and dad are taking my family of 4 down for a week. Sounds like the same package you got. Everything included. My cost? Gas to drive down. We are going the 2nd week in December. I am excited because I was dreading paying for everything myself one day. Thank you mom and dad. :)

@ATC_1982 - catch is that pricing is just because of the current "buy 4 nights, get 3 free" promotion. If it weren't for that, we'd be doubling the price almost. Simply too good of a deal not to jump on where Disney was in our future plans anyways...

Dude, I did some quick calculations since i had some of the pages booked marked. The $6900 looks expensive to some, but it is a good deal. Some of the restaurants required reservations and you might want to see if you can book online ahead of time. If you have daughters, look at Bippity Boppity Boutique http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/special/bbb/index?id=BBBLandingPage . Hair, Makeup, etc for girls of ALL ages. Yes, they will even make-up your wife. They have different packages. We brought our own dress and shoes for my daughter and they are fine with that. Is your wife a scrap-booker?? If so, she may want to take pages to make her own autograph book instead of buying one there. My wife did this and I can take a picture of it if you want. Belle is hot, so is Cinderella. Disney's site has a section called "Choose your Experience" where you can do searches to find activities for children of all ages. Here is one with a sample Itinerary http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdwi/en_GB/experience/experienceSampleI... Dive into their website, search for special events. They have behind the scene tours, etc. My daughter is 4.5 years old and LOVED Big Thunder Mountain. Traveling with Kids page: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/apprenticeExplorer/explorerStoryLan... Get the book that corbin suggested. I think we got a different book but it is similar. Plan out what you want to see, because you might not be able to see it all. Since you are staying at Disney you can get into a park early. Each day one park either opens early or stays open late. We hit the right day for Magic Kingdom and got to stay an extra 2 hours. The rooms have 5- 10 channels of nothing but Disney programming. There should be a pamphlet telling which park is opening early or closing late. You might have to rent a stroller... Since you have a family of 5 you might consider the double. It is $31 a day. Cheaper if you rent for multiple days. That way one kid can ride and the other side you can stack stuff. Also, if you do any shopping you can have them ship it to your hotel. No more carrying packages around the park. You see something you like.. Buy it and have them deliver it to your room. I wouldn't suggest you use that service on the last day, but it is great early on in the week. I would plan as much as I can but be flexible. HAVE FUN !!! Sometimes you can be in such a rush to see everything you forget to have fun. Hope this helps.

Congrats! We did the same thing 2 years ago. Advice: Pick the top restaurants, get your moneys worth as the meal package is the ONLY way to go. Make sure you plan where you want to eat for each day and be sure to get reservations. Good eats include the Restaurant at the Wilderness lodge, The African hotel and the fancy place in the Polynesian best 3 meals we had although all of the places we ate ate were good. Make sure you plan your days especially when travelling with younger kids and plan on taking breaks. Since you're staying in the park and have hopper passes it's nothing to leave for an hour or two mid day and come back in the evening. you can even plan on spending 1/2 day at one park and taking a break then checking out another park in the evening. Best thing to get is the Minnie Mickey travel book(it's usually got an orange and white cover http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Mickey-Pocket-Sized-Unofficial-Disney/dp/0470... ). It outlines everything in the parks and serves as a great planniong guide without all the BS, it's very straightforward and objective.

Do not under-estimate the enourmous size of the park...It is god damn HUGE. So big in fact, they have their own fire stations (2 i believe). Take one land at a time, do not try to squeeze in multiple lands in a day. (again, Ginormous) They are completely self contained for every thing. You will not have to leave for anything. They have their own freaking highway system!!! Check it out on Google maps, and just scroll around: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=disney+world&sll=37.062...

That is true--you can easily spend a day in each park and not even see everything. That sounds like a really great deal you got.
