Temptation

I was reading today on the Blackberry (yeah, during the morning constitutional...) that auto manufacturers are tacking on even more incentives to try and drum up business. The latest, from GM and Ford, is the 'job insurance policy' where they'll cover up to a year's worth of payments if you lose your job. Well, not that I'd ever buy new - we all know how fast cars lose value that first, oh SECOND off the lot - but it got me thinking on my car. I'm driving a 2001 Chrysler Concorde with 110k miles. Still runs fine without any major hiccups. Catch is, my wife drives a 2000 Honda Oddessey with 120k miles. Sooo...I'm worried we'll be hit with dual car payments at some point.

So a little looking around, and what do I find near me? This.

2005 Ford Mustang GT with only 1,342 miles on it. Talk about a BEAST of a machine! I'm not old enough for a midlife crisis (tho' it feels like I've been living one the past two weeks...), but if I were, this would be awfullllly tempting. I'd have to learn to drive a manual, but such are sacrifices we would make, eh? Hehe.

So, any advice on how to convince the wife that it's in our best interest for me to get a new car now to prevent those double loans in 2-3 years? Of course, I ask that knowing she'll be reading this anytime in the next few hours, so make it good.

EDIT:  D'OH!  Nope, not sold to me.    Hehe.

I went through the 2 car payments deal a few years ago. It sucks ass. Get it now and start paying it off, before it's to late. 20k isn't that bad for the car your getting, it most likely went for 28k or more new. DO YOU HEAR MRS. B, LET THE BOY HAVE HIS TOY. You'll look extra hawt cruising down the road as well. Maybe he'll let you drive i- - nevermind.

as the former owner of 400hp 95' SVT Mustang Cobra, I'll tell you this....it's never too early for a mid-life crisis, I had my first at 19 (the cobra) my second at 25 (the 62" TV) and I'm looking to have another one so I can pick up the 68' Vette that's for sale down the street..... as for the excuse, with the markets the way they are, people are looking to unload every toy that they have and 1/2 its value, but it now and so long as you keep the milage under 50k it will hold its value better than a more practical car(due to the current demand for them)

Have fun driving that bad boy in the snow....Sure, summer iss around the corner now but with the winter you guys just had think of that nice commute with ZERO traction. Been there, done that and as much as I love the Mustang, I would not buy another until I lived somewhere with no snow.
