Things we do for our kids...

I join 2old2play to get away from the Timmies of this world.  I wanted my online gaming experience to be the best it could be, void of the screaming voices just waiting for the first shot of testosterone.  I needed a community that I could feel secure that I would find a solid group of people to game with night after night.  The great thing is that is percisely what 2old2play is.  It is really the gaming Nirvana for the 30-something gamer.

However, it seems that the love for my mental stability and well-being stops at my gaming, and does not extend to what I'll do for my kids.  Tonight will be a case study of just how stupid parents can be out of the undying care they have for their kids.  To set the stage, I've been battling insomnia of sorts for several months as of late.  Now, normal people would go get something for it and call it done, but for me it's very hit-and-miss.  Most nights I can fall asleep somewhere near midnight, and get a solid 7 hours of sleep...more than enough to function throughout the day.  However, every now and then, there will come a night where I just can't get asleep for the life of me.  Last night was one of those nights.  Tossing and turning for 3 hours in bed, then downstairs for an hour out of frustration, and then return to finally fall asleep somewhere around 4:30 or 5:00am.  Alarm goes off at 7:00, which is repeatively snoozed until 7:30.

But why does this impact the kids..?  It's because of this:

That's right...tonight is the official premier of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.  And as a good parent and loving father, I'm going to willfully and knowingly subject myself to a theater full of screaming Timmies just so my kids can see it tonight.  Would they die if they didn't?  No, fortunately they are not spoiled.  But last weekend they busted their humps helping my wife and I with all kinds of housework and yardwork, and I want to show some appreciation for that (in hopes of it happening again ).  So, 7:10 this evening...pray for me.  Pray I don't rip some 14-year old boy's larynx out for yapping during the movie because HE thinks he needs to be the movie critic.

My 9 year old is hitting a "Costume Party" with one of the girls in his class this weekend... in place of going camping with me and his brother. Next week is Dance camp. "Remind me to punch your mother in the mouth when we get home."

Good luck with that! I can't take four or five kids near me at a time, I would go out of my mind if it were a theater full of screaming kids! :)
