Things we do for our kids... the aftermath

All’s well that ends well. I think that holds particularly true as I reflect back on yesterday and it’s challenges. For those who didn’t read the last blog – and don’t care to – is that I’m fighting with some insomnia, didn’t sleep the night before, but thought it was a good idea to take the family to the latest Harry Potter premier.

On the insomnia front, I was able to get into see my doctor yesterday, and while it wasn’t a very informative meeting per se or give me a sense of the “why” behind it, he wasn’t concerned and felt comfortable prescribing some good ‘ol Ambien CR for when I get my sleep pattern out of whack. I’ll take them for a few nights to ensure I get into a good stretch of slumbering nights, and then stop taking them and see if it sticks. Hoping that it will, then the rest remain in waiting should I start to have problems again down the road. Like I said, not a magic bullet, but at least I now have an option I didn’t have before.

Then for the movie – it was a blast. Because of the doctors visit, I was able to get home early and go out to the theater as an entire family, rather than separately as we thought we would have to (in order to secure a good spot in line and quality seats). A quick trip to Walmart to pick up the goodies – instead of paying $3.50 for a $0.99 box of candy – and we’re first in the waiting line. Kids have their DS units in tow, so behave themselves as best as three kids can waiting in a line for an hour. Once the previous showing lets out and the room is cleaned, we get the best seats in the house. As expected, it was a packed theater, but the average age was much higher than I’d have expected. By far and away, adults were in the majority, which almost brought a tear to my eye.

I’m not going to go into any detail and risk spoiling the movie, but rest assured it was very solid. It’s been quite some time since I’ve read the book, but was able to still recognize some areas I wish they went into a little more detail on. Regardless, it lived up to the others in the series quite easily, even to a point of being one of the better of the films. All in all, well worth the price of admission.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix gets a big thumbs up!

Ambien CR =( Been on that stuff, hated how it made me feel. I didn't know which was worse, the lethargy and anxiety I had from insomnia, or the drugged, through-the-day-sluggishness of Ambien CR. Good to hear the film is solid, though, I probably won't see it, in all likelihood. Rowling is masterful with intertwining details in the books, details which later make all the difference in later books, but due to the constraints of movies, a lot of details that are important either never get filmed or get left on the cutting room floor. It's a shame, really, because the details are what really tie the series together and I can't help but feel that's one of the reasons you walked away feeling the movie was disjointed in some parts.

Good deal. Hey, that's the worst sculpture of Jesus I have ever seen. He's way too white. His hair is too straight and what in the hell is he wearing? Looks like he's headed to an Anime convention minus the huge sword.
