The good -
First honors go to the weather. With the exception of the first Monday we hit New Hampshire (which we used just to unload, grocery shop, etc. anyways) and one day when the wind on the lake made the chop a little extreme, the weather could not have been better. It was all over the news that the two weeks we were up there were the best of the entire summer. It seems that New Hampshire spent most of July being rained upon day after day after day. We dodged the bullet obviously, and couldn't have been happier. Sunny and 80 degrees was the norm.
Next up were the boats. My father-in-law has a pontoon party-type boat and a fun three person waverunner which we made extreme use of while on the lake. I think the two days mentioned above were the only two when we didn't take one or both out for a good portion of the day. I think I clocked better than 15 hours on the waverunner alone.
As a parting finale to the vacation, yesterday we and another family hit Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. Again, weather was perfect. We arrived just after they opened at 10:30am, and closed the park down at 10:00pm. We did split duty with the other family given that we have some younger kids as well as my daughter who is the coaster beast on steroids. She even managed to convince this old fart to ride Kingda Ka, the tallest and fastest (456ft and 128MPH respectively) in the world. And...we did it in the dark of night. Here's an idea what it's like. The translation of the video is, roughly, "Oh SHIT" and "We're going to dieee!"
The bad -
As with most vacations, the idea that it's over. Granted, my feet hurt more than I care to admit after walking who knows how many miles back and forth yesterday in wet shoes (thank you Congo Rapids), so sitting behind the desk isn't a complete loss. However, given the chance, I'd take another two weeks without objection.
The other item to fall into this category will be my MasterCard statement next month, only due to the amount of gas we burned on the lake. While the price wasn't too bad in New Hampshire, the $100 fill-ups on the pontoon boat will leave a mark.
And the ugly -
This honor goes to my shoulders, upper arms, and upper back thanks to my total stupidity early on in the vacation and the nice sunburn I enjoyed. I'm now peeling more than Mike Myers in Goldmember, leaving flakes of downy skin in my wake wherever I go.
All in all, the best vacation in my limited recollection.
