The first is this – I am SO glad we never had twins. Over the long holiday weekend, we visited my sister and her newly expanded family. About 5 weeks ago, she was blessed (or cursed… ) with twin son and daughter. Add to the mix a 2 year old, very … how do you say this … labor-intensive little girl. I’m not certain how my sister has maintained her sanity this far, and can only hope she survives. I’m not sure if I would. With all that said tho’, Jake and Skyler are absolutely adorable.
Onto the next epiphany – my daughter is nuts. While my boys aren’t the adrenaline freaks that I am (to a point…it’s getting less and less as the years wear on), my daughter thrives on it. Case in point: we took her to Six Flags America on Sunday, while leaving the boys to play the Wii at the aunt’s house for the day. Rather than be content with the ‘normal’ rides a 9-year old would enjoy, she bee-lines it for each and every rollercoaster in the park. First is the looping, inverting, twisting Two-Face. Then to one of the wooden coasters, taken in stride and without a hitch. Then, unfortunately, disaster struck – she finds out in line at SuperMan she’s an inch or so too short. 54” minimum, she clocks in just short of that. She still managed to ride another called The Mind Eraser which, to put it mildly, scared the crap out of me just watching it go. Needless to say, she’s bummed to miss out on SuperMan, and Bat Wing. Next time we’re in the area tho’, and she’ll be waiting.
Finally, the single best day of the year – Back To School Day! Today, for the first time, all three of the brood are away to school for the full day. My eldest starts middle school today – a big step away from the single classroom and to a schedule of 7 rotating classes. My daughter starts 4th grade, and my youngest readies to terrorize some helpless 1st grade teacher. In about 10 minutes, my wife will sit up and say to herself “wait a minute…nobody is coming home at noon!?!?” I’m guessing that will be followed by a giggle or at least a grin.
