The comic book store where I by my books from weekly is run by a couple of friends of mine. A couple weeks ago while in getting my books and spending waaaaay more money then I should be on comics, LOL, they asked me to personalize a special edition of the comic Fallen Son Chapter 3. The book comes with a blank white space on the cover for a sketch to be done on. The story pertains to the recent death of Captain America and Iron Mans attempt to recruit Hawkeye to take up Caps mantle. Its actually a pretty good read :-) So any way they asked me to do an original sketch and they plan to display it in the store along with some other artists that shop their store. Its taken me a couple weeks to get around to doing it but I finished it today so I thought i would share :-)
The second bit is to heap praise and envy on an artist that is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites. I have talked here before about Adam Hughes and he still is my all time favorite. Travist Charest is probably my second favorite, I haven't posted about him directly but plan to soon. But this gentleman is quickly becoming my 3rd most favorite artists. FRANK CHO, his woman are so beautiful and so strong and his composition is incredible. He illustrates action in a dynamic and original way and yet has a clear strong classical comic book influence in his pieces. Granted, like Hughes, he borders on cheesecake, but I like that. Some of you may recognize him from his long running comic strip Liberty Meadows. ( which by the way is extremely funny if you get a chance to pick up some of the collected books of this strip dont miss it ) He started out getting into main stream comic books doing covers. Then he did an incredible re-imagination of Shanna The She Devil for Marvelthat completely blew my doors off. Now he is also the regular artist on the Avengers. Anyway I stumbled onto his web site today and spent a good hour going through all the gorgeous art he has posted there of his recent work. I have grabbed one pick to post here but be sure to take a trip over to his site and scroll through the news section that is an archive of past postsand be sure to click the smaller images many of them are in a much larger size for sweet drooling goodness!! :-)
