A/C Woes!

It's hot here.  Really hot.  105 and tons of humidity hot.  Not a good time to have A/C issues in your vehicle!

So, it's early fall last year, still warm enough to need A/C and it started blowing warm air.  Filled it up with freon a couple of times and made it through to this spring.  A buddy of mine and I could not find the leak, we tried the dye and blacklight to spot it but nothing.  I finally broke down and took it to a recommended shop, they could not find it for a few days and then finally figured it out - it leaked from the compressor once it got hot.  $777 and change later, I was back on the road blowing cold air.  That was May.  I had even double-checked all the parts and labor prices with a friend in the industry and everything checked out.

So, this past Sunday we loaded up the minivan headed off to church and there was no warning.  Just hot air.  ARGH!  You have got to be kidding me!  Doing my best to hold back from letting loose some choice expletives in front of the kid-os, I just kept thinking to myself  that it was ok, I am sure it is just a faulty compressor, they will swap it out for free, no big deal.  Ok, yes, you can stop laughing now.

OF COURSE this time it is leaking from the evaporator core which means the entire dashboard has to be pulled out before any work can be done which makes the labor that much more - it's pretty much the worse spot this could happen.  So, I made it 3 months on the freon since May, so I am going to pump it full again and make it through this year.  Ahhhh, the joys of automobile ownership when they are out of warranty!!!

Dude same shit is happening to me right now. I have a 2002 chevy tahoe and my A/C unit started blowing hot air. So I looked for the leaks but nothing so we believed it was the evaporator, because I also was losing air flow, thus I believed it was the evaporator. But nothing, I need to keep recharging with gas every two or three weeks because there is a leak somewhere. Mine is probably at the condensing unit (compressor), and yours must be at the evaporator. If it's not my condensing unit then the people a the shop mounted the evaporator all wrong. It's frustrating, cause once your A/C unit on any car goes bad it will give you problems all through out. It never can be fixed back like the way it was.

That sucks. Come to other end of the state with me. It has been a little cooler. It gets too bad and we can go up in the mountains and cool off in the creek.

Uh-oh, sounds like a lemon! Our old family Volvo from the eighties was a money pit.
