To the American Smoker...

This blog is for all those Americans who smoke...

I know that over that last several years many of your individual rights have been trampled under and you have to pay substantially more in taxes to do what you have every legal right to do.  Why individual restaurants and shops can't choose for themselves whether or not to have or allow smoking areas is beyond me.  Let the consumer decide if they want to frequent such establishments or not.  Of course the government gets away with this because as a non smoker many of us simply say "Well it doesn't effect me so I don't really care".  Of course one day they'll come for you're particular niche habit and then all of the sudden you will.

But I digress.

In light of so much of the negative press and the growing animosity towards smokers I might humbly suggest you do 1 thing....

STOP THROWING YOUR !@##$ing CIGERETTE BUTTS OUT OF THE !@%#@$ing WINDOW!!!

I mean really.  I would hope that these same people wouldn't throw their McDonald's bag out of the sunroof to smack my windshield as we drove down the highway.  Why do I have to sweep this crap off of my sidewalk?  Just 'cause it's small doesn't mean it's any less trash.  Throw your trash in the proper trash receptacles.  Maybe you'd get a little less indifference toward your rights if we weren't having to clean up after you all the time.  I've never sat in a car that didn't have an ash tray and if there wasn't you could certainly create one.  If you think you're saving some sort of value in your car by keeping the ashy crap and smell out of your car, trust me, you're not.  When a non smoker gets into your car, no matter how well it's been cleaned, we can still tell that a smoker owned it.  So, put your butts out in your own space and keep your trash to yourself.

Living in the southwest...it gets dry as hell here in the summer and I still see idiots toss the butts out the window going down the highway. Okay...get some intelligence here people...did you see that burnt area 5 miles back? That was from other dumbass...keep it in your car...grind it down on your dash and toss it the back seat for all I care.

The solution is to make cigarettes bigger, like 50x their current size. Then people wouldn't throw the enormous butts everywhere. It actually would be like littering a McDonald's bag and people would change their habit of dropping the big butts everywhere... I like big butts and I cannot lie...

as long as it is legal for me to walk around spraying people in the face with a fragrance that smells like human fecal matter and eventually will cause them to die of cancer it should be legal for people to smoke in public restaurants and work places. I live in Ohio where there is no smoking in any workplaces and I love the fact that I can go to the bowling alley and not stink like smoke at the end of the night.

Bravo. This is one of my top pet peeves. There have been a couple times where people's thrown cigarette butts have almost come into my car through the moonroof before. Jerkasses.

I don't have a ash tray in my truck. And as soon as I stop seeing shoes, underwear, tires, used make-up cases, diapers and countless other things on the side of the road, I'll stop throwing my butts out the window. The only place it bothers me that they have eliminated smoking from, is in bars. Restaurants, bowling alleys, anywhere public indoors in the Nazi state of IL, I understand. But bars? C'mon, I know boatloads of non-smokers that only smoke when they are drinking. If you don't smoke, don't want to smell like smoke, then stay the hell out of my dive bar. Buy a four pack of your Bartyles and James and sit your ass at home and drink. LOL.

I agree with you Bayman about the bars and restaurants. The owners should be able to decide what type of clientele they want to cater to. I can kind of understand the ban in public places where most people have to go to on a regular basis. As far as the diapers and shoes etc. I guess my point is that it's all equally bad. Justifying the bad actions of others for our own bad actions, doesn't make ours any less bad. Everyone should be putting their trash where it belongs.

Caesar - A quick google search for Automotive Aftermarket Ashtray should solve your problem.

I ride a motorcycle and really hate when they bounce off my helmet. I also hate having to sweep the damn Cig butts up from in front off my store every morning even though there is an ash tray outside for that specific purpose. Lazy ass smokers piss me off,. I used to smoke and never tossed a but out the window or on the ground. I would pocket them until I found a trash can.

I'm going to reveal a secret dream I have right now for the first time in public: My dream is that when I'm old and retired I will become a garbage ninja. When I see someone throw a butt out the window(or some other trash) I will follow them to their house and then that night dump several cans of nasty garbage around their front door and on and around their car. King and Caesar, if you truly do throw your butts out the window then you are a couple of jackasses. Pointing out someone else's bad behavior is no excuse for your own(as was already pointed out).
