Extreme Is Back!

In the late Eighties/early Nineties my favorite band was Extreme. Now I know that's not a popular pick. It doesn't have the same luster that picking Metallica or Rush or Nirvana or some other "cool" band, but I liked 'em. In fact I liked them a lot. In fact, I'm pretty sure I own every CD that was ever produced for them. Including foreign single releases and a bootleg or two. In the mid Nineties the band members went their separate ways. Nuno worked on some solo projects (yes, I have a couple of those albums too) and Gary did a less then memorable stint as the lead singer in Van Ego ...errr... I mean Halen. Paul went on to manage some really good bands like Godsmack, Fuel and Smashing Pumpkins.

Anyway, after several years Extreme has finally release their 5th studio album. I found it today on Zune Marketplace and have had a chance to listen to most of the tracks. If you are familiar with the band then you'll be immediately familiar with the sound as soon as it starts. I was a little concerned about what to expect from Gary after what transpired in VH. Whatever the hell the producers did to his voice for the Halen album is thankfully missing for this venture. I suspect there was a cheese grater involved but I can't confirm that. As always though the tracks on this album are eclectic. In fact, I'm pretty sure there was a country music track on there. I've heard most the songs at this point and I'll say if you liked Extreme before, you should like this album. There's probably nothing there though to convert a hater to a lover though. I may actually buy the CD. Haven't done that in years.

Extreme broke up in the 90's I think... after "More Than Words" and a couple other albums. Lemme check wikipedia... Yep, 1996. I assume you meant "nineties" instead of "eighties".

I really like their first album, (with Play with Me and Mutha (don't want to go to school)) but other than the extremely good guitar playing, nothing really drew me to them. They do kind of unfairly get lumped in with the "Hair" metal bands although I don't think they really fit into that category. Kind of like Tesla, they were just a good rock and roll band in an unfortunate time. I say unfortunate, because really good bands got caught up in the whitewash of the music industry that was the Grunge movement. By the way, Metallica's new single is out. I know you may not like them as much as me, but I'm telling everybody because I'm giddy about it. lol!

The only album I have from them is "Pornograffiti" (the one with "More Than Words"). I like it even if I don't listen often these days.

Damn, I'm surprised they got back together. VH1 tried to get them together a couple years ago for that reuniting the band show and Nuno was having no part of it.

Yeah After Nuno Caught Gary Boning his wife, I never thought I'd see these guys get back together.

Did you ever check out Nuno's project he did under the band name "Drama Gods" It was only release din korea but can be found on Amazon or I-tunes. It's definately good stuff. The song "Interface" from the new Extreme disc is actually a cut from the Drama Gods disc.
