Foo Fighting At Work

I was sitting at my desk the other day with my Directv playing across from me randomly surfing for some background noise to fill my otherwise stone quiet cubicle. I happened across a recording of a Foo Fighters concert on channel 101. I’ve never been a big fan of the Foo Fighters. It’s not that their music isn’t catchy (sometimes) or they seem to be giant dicks. I think it’s because I never really liked Nirvana and since Dave was from that band it was guilt by association kind of thing.

What a great show they put on! Their drummer wears me out just watching him. I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed seeing bands perform live. You see that’s my dilemma. I love to see band play live, I just hate going to concerts to see them. I’m not one of those dance in the aisles, pump your fist in the air kind of guys. I prefer just to sit back and take it all in. At a live venue you look like your either a. bored or b. rude if you’re not joining in the fray. That’s why I’ve always preferred to just watch a taped or live to tape show on TV or DVD. The view is always better, no one is blowing smoke in your face or puking next to you and best of all I can crank up my home theater to a level that shakes the walls but doesn’t leave me deaf the next day. I should start seeing more of these shows. If anyone has a suggestion, I’d take it. I’m hoping that there’s more content available in HD now. The last show I sat and watched all the way through was the Tribute to Freddy Mercury about 10 years ago. I have a new respect for Foo Fighters now. I’m probably not going to run out and buy their album now or anything, but at least I won’t quickly change the channel when their songs come up on the satellite radio!

I'm with you on the concert thing. when I go to shows, I just like to stand there and actually WATCH the show. especially if I go to a metal show (ie. Pantera), I like to watch the guitarist and what he's doing. and people give me "looks" because I'm not in the mosh pit "bangin' skulls" or whatever.

I like the Foos, they are a great band to listen to in the background, like at work and whatnot. I agree with Castle's hit and miss comment. Some songs are great and some are forgettable.

Two suggestions: Foo Fighters - their albums have absolutely brilliant songs and absolute shit, so use iTunes and screen them, then buy the ones you like... For semi-HD concerts: Dave MAtthews Band in Central Park... and if you really like DMB, buy the Weekend on the Rocks Double CD because it comes with a bonus DVD that is AWESOME. Sherly Crow has a good one too as well as the Dixie Chicks (if you like them). Finally, get MTV HD... believe it or not they actually play music videos and have a ton of HD Storyteller sessions and music shows.
