I thought I'd post it here since you'll never see it on my sig space.
Having thought about it for a while and reading some of the responses I got on the previous blog, I still stand by my notion that competitive tourneys and mixers don't....well.....mix. However, I do think it can work if there is a handicap system in place. For instance, in Chicago we'll have a Rock Band tourney for those interested. Even though I have a band that can play all songs on Expert, it won't matter. The difficulty is capped at Medium and Hard. So even though, let's say, BanjoCut is a better drum player then I am on Expert level, I could still potentially beat him, or at least have a draw against him on Medium drums because there's only so many points available to both of us. Now, in order to do that in a Halo or Call of Duty tourney, you'd have to come up with some really convoluted system of scoring in order to introduce a handicap system. But I suppose if there were a handicap system in place, then you could mix hardcore gamers and casual gamers in the same competition. In reality though, most games don't really lend themselves to that.
