I never really thought this could happen to me, but I was recently on a camping trip with Skeywalker and LadyisRed when I noticed some unusual commotion inside the tent. ;; ;; ;; Oops wrong forum. :)
Seriously though, I’ve been an avid fan of the Halo franchise since the beginning. ;; It started with Halo: CE which I beat on every setting and had regular Sunday night LAN parties for a year and a half. ;; Then Halo: PC came out and my obsession was re-invigorated as I learned the awesome new maps. (take note Bungie-those folks did outstanding map design.) ;; Then finally after years of waiting Halo2 finally released with Xbox live support and I was instantly hooked once again. ;; After a few months of MM and bouncing around a few different clans I happened upon 2o2p one day and my life as not been the same since (just ask my wife). ;; This site and Halo have been like crack to me for the past year (almost). ;; I’ve played Halo exclusively for all that time. ;; I’ve always been a fan of video games but it was always a short passing fancy with most. ;; Sure once in awhile I’d dabble in a new title but nothing could compare to my beloved Halo. Then something unexpected happened.
I had purchased a 360 back in January at my local Fry’s Electronics. ;; At that time 360’s were still pretty hard to come by so when I saw one was in stock I immediately decided to snatch one up. ;; Then came the catch….”Sir, you have to purchase another wireless controller and 4 games in order to buy a new 360.” ;; 4 games! ;; I didn’t really want any at the time but I wanted the 360 more so I reluctantly chose 4 titles. ;; PGR3, COD2, Quake and DOA4 (‘cause it was the newest title). ;; I played all of them a little bit when I got home but none really captured an interest for me. ;;
Then, 3 months later I start to hear talk in my clan of a fabulous new update and a gathering of individuals for “special” game nights. ;; I couldn’t be left out of that! ;; What was it? ;; Am I missing something? ;; Well it was (you guessed it) the COD2 patch. ;; We could now play in our own rooms, by our own rules with (virtually) no lag and more importantly No Timmies! ;;
So I downloaded the patch. ;; Then I played. ;; Then I played some more, and more and more. ;; Pretty soon I realized that it had been a couple of days since I had put Halo in my machine at all! ;; It felt like I was starting an elicit affair. ;; You know the kind that the wife never finds out about and there’s no chance of getting Chlamydia. ;; Pretty soon I started getting a semi-regular group of fellow 202p’rs to play with which made the experience even better. ;; Whoever said “3s a crowd” never had the right 3.
I’m not sure why I’ve strayed from my beloved Halo. ;; Maybe it’s the newness of sexy graphics. ;; Maybe it’s the well proportioned, intricately detailed maps. ;; It could be the smoke grenades that lend a bit of mystery to any give situation. ;; It may be the choice of weapons laid out before me to choose at my own discretion. ;; That’s right; I don’t have to hope to spawn nearest the “power” weapons in order to get my kills. ;; I can choose the weapon I want from the get go and if half way through the game I want to change, I can. ;; It makes the game less about weapon control and more about self control. ;; It’s probably that everything is all new for everybody so that no one has an experience advantage over anyone else, at least not yet.
I’m sure the newness of the game will probably fade. ;; Then we’ll see if the “new girl” is just a passing fancy or if she can permanently replace my first love. ;; My guess is that one day soon I’ll return to that game that I’ve loved so long. ;; After all she’s due for an extreme makeover soon and I’ll be able to explore all the new “features” she has in store for me. ;; But for now, given the choice, I really dig the new girl.
Now about that tent….
