Memories

I was thinking about what a great 2+ years I’ve had since being a part of 2o2p and OMM. I’ve had so many great experiences here over the last months that I can’t imagine what I would have done with myself had I not found this place. Here are a few of my fondest memories, in no particular order.

 

1.       Exploring Chicago with Scotib and Tait at the ’06 Chicago LAN

2.       My ongoing “feud” with my OMM nemesis Skeywalker. I think I’ve totally won this at this point since she no longer has the cajones to respond to my taunts anymore.

3.       Having Phreak kick, punch and generally torment me for 10 solid hours at the Ft. Wayne LAN last year.

4.       Being a part of the various “helping hand” projects that have taken place both within my clan and on the site in general. Who says online friends can’t be real?

5.       Meeting Megan a couple of weeks ago. I’m not big on kids (just ask Sys about my unique babysitting services) but she is a real sweetheart.

6.       The OMM Thanksgiving at Rockcrawler’s house last year

7.       Dominating H1 at the Rockcrawler LAN. For once I was the top dog on a game.

8.       Winning the “Most Cookies Eaten” award at a Stryker LAN. Ok there was no “official” award but you guys know I totally pwnd.

9.       The night Mike James introduced himself to my wife with the usual “I’m Mike James bitch!” to which she responded “I’m The Librarian Bitch!”

10.   Seeing the movie 300 with some 2o2p peeps at the Bunsen LAN in March.

11.   Finding out over XBL that Stryker lived 5 minutes from my house. He won’t quit stalking me now.

12.   Watching as my wife went from tolerant spouse to full on gamer and site member.

13.   The day I took TDrag’s pic and used it for my blog.

 

Interestingly, virtually all of my fondest moments are centered on people whom I’ve actually met. I know there’s been some great moments and memories I’ve had during online gaming but the memories that spring first to mind are the ones that involve the friendships that have been formed beyond the games. I’ve heard rumblings from time to time that the site or a particular forum is “too personal” and doesn’t focus enough on games. I say, I wouldn’t want it any other way. The games may be the door by which we all enter, but the friendships are the foundation on which the house is built.
