My Phone

I've never been on the bleeding edge of the technology curve but for many items I'm usually at the forefront.  I was one of the first to have DirecTv in our area.  I was the first in line for a DirecTivo unit when they released.  I have 3 HD televisions and HD-DVR units currently.  I jumped on the Zune bandwagon (such as it was) early on.  I was one of the first people in my edition to use high speed internet.  Both my cars have GPS units and I've always been pretty eager to get the latest in car audio.  I know that many or most of those things are common place now.  While I may not always be first in line, I at least adopt the new stuff pretty quickly.  Except when it comes to my cell phone...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not walking around with a bag phone from 1989 or anything.  I just haven't capitulated to the cell phone generation as quickly as most have.  My wife and I share 450 minutes a month, to which we never even come close to using.  I simply don't get why my phone needs to play MP3s.  My phone has a camera, they all do anymore, but I've never sent or received a photo.  I can't for the life of me understand why someone would waste 5 minutes typing an IM that would take 1 minute to tell them if they just called.  In fact I treat my cell phone more like the car phones of the mid 90s.  I rarely have it on my person.  It normally sits in the cup holder of my Trailblazer.  Maybe that's because I don't send or receive many calls.  Regardless, I have noticed lately that I've come back to the car to see that I've missed on or two lately.  I feel guilty when I do.  I should make my cell phone more a part of my daily life I suppose.  I just can't seem to get into the habit.

Sorry I missed your call.

I'm just like you. I love video and audio tech but a phone for me is a phone. I want a small easy to use phone that will fit easily in my pocket. Don't want a camera, gps, or ipod, I want a phone that will make and receive calls that it. They keep cramming all this stuff into phones just to jack up the price. Motorola is even worse, they charge extra money just for the color of the phone. They come out with a Razr that is blue then they charge you extra for one that is black two moths later.

Don't feel too bad about it. I actually work for a cell phone company and have those discussions almost daily with customers. On the flip side, there are a lot of folks like me that have replaced their home phone with cell phones because it is just more practical on the phone bill. I do still have one home phone hooked up for measured service...I get the first 20 calls free and then pay per call after. The only reason it is there is for my 2 small children to dial 911 in an emergency if they can't find or get to my cell phone. @ekattan...the reason the black razr is higher is it has an mp3 player built into it and more memory for storage of photos and music. lol
