Let me tell you a little story.
As many of you know I had a problem with my 360 a couple of months ago. In my desperation to get it returned/repaired as soon as possible I first contacted MS about the problem then called Frys Electronics where I purchased the machine (and an extended warranty). MS said they would send me a "coffin" for my 360 and Frys said theyd be happy to exchange it, they just didnt have any in at that time. A couple of days later the return box from MS arrives and I get a phone call from Frys saying they received a few new units and had one set aside for me! Of course I go to Frys since I wasnt interested in waiting 2-3 weeks for MS to turn around my old box. I simply discarded the "coffin" assuming that the RA number attached to it would simply expire after 30 days as is customary in most businesses.
Fast forward a couple of months... I returned from my vacation to Vegas with a note on my front door from UPS saying that they tried to deliver a package. My wife and I were both a bit puzzled at this point as neither of us were expecting anything. (I secretly assumed she purchased something off of ebay and just forgot ) Well nothing ever came back from UPS so I assumed the package was returned to the shipper and if it was something important it would be re-sent.
Fast forward to last week.... I get a phone call when I get home from work from of all people MS! (not Bill mind you, he only calls when he needs a loan ) The lady on the other end informs me that a delivery attempt was made a couple of weeks ago and was not completed. I told her that I was on vacation that week and thats why the delivery wasnt successful. "What exactly are you trying to deliver?" I asked. "You had an RA for a new 360." she responded. Apparently MS was attempting to deliver a brand new 360 to my house even though I had never sent back the old unit! "Is this address correct?" she says.
Scruples. Do you tell her "Yes thats my address, please send me my new unit." or "Im sorry for the trouble maam, but Ive already replaced that unit at the store from which I bought it."?
